For anyone who is interested, here is a quick breakdown/ making of my new character "Ponytail"
Created entirely in Blender3d. If you wanna check out my 3d workflow for character creation.

I've been writing a terrain replacement shader + custom gpu instanced tree system lately. Wanted to make a quick test how it all comes together. All models and texture are just low res placeholders.

I agree with what Tweedie said. This is an amazing unity screenshot.
@tweedie, something else that really caught my eye when is your unity avatar. I love that cow character! Did you make this? Its fantastic. Do you mind posting a full picture of that 3d model? :)

Hey snow, cheers! Yup, I made him - some time ago now though! Struggled to find the pics, dunno where the model files are now :) He was part of a good fun project that'll hopefully get picked up again some time in the distant future.

But yeah here he is, back from when I was working in blender - it was around the time Unity 5 was just out in beta and I was playing around with the cloth sim stuff for the pipes, so ignore the horrid jaggy edges on those :) Also he was just posed in the modeller so the "skinning" around the joints is bad too

Niiiice! Dude this is an incredible awesome 3d model. Everything about it is so well done. The modeling the texturing, the colors, the character design. It's so eye catching and looks great. I hope you use this 3d model for something, it would be awesome in game. I love this. Make more of these! :D

Anyway, its been awhile since I posted a video update, so heres a new episode of cookin games. Video and audio quality kind of got messed up though.

    Inhabitant

Hi all, building our dream game doesn't come without its challenges. We decided to sell some of our assets on the asset store to help fund the game. For starters we have expose the RaZor Starship complete with landing gear, rotating hyper thruster and interior bridge with two seats.

Future update will include particle effects and ship controller script. We practically giving it away and it's cool. I'm available for any support on my channel and there's a few more assets coming. We love our assets but realize the only way to self fund is through the indie game community.

Our game is called Inhabitant. It's set in a procedurally generated universe complete with galaxies, stars and planets. The objective is to colonize space by building space colonies on habitable planets thus "inhabitant". Check our progress on our website and for more recent content #inhabitantgame on Twitter. We also have a Facebook page we would love you to join. I broadcast my development on twitch on a regular basis. For the love of game development and the dream!

I went back and made a coupe of revisions to my character because I felt like it was missing something.

So I reworked the textures and gave him a hat. The character is suppose to be a mail man type.

But after, I wasn't happy with the color scheme. I liked the hat but it just didn't seem right to me.
I went back again, I really liked the original pink texture I made so I went back to that and I adjusted the hat to look more fitting and matching. This is the final revision for this character. I am happy with the colors and texture now. (I can't believe I wasted so many hours just trying to find the right color scheme. ) haha :D

Also, keep in mind, these screenshots just show the raw character model and textures. There is no lighting or post image effects or anything like that yet. So it will look a lot better later on in game. :)

You should bake the occlusion texture and add it to the material in Unity, I think it would make it look a lot better.

    I did... This is with the occlusion map :( :( :( :( :(
haha, I think its just my texture styling. My characters always come out really toony. I am terrible at realistic type characters.
My characters look best with toon shading because of this. :)

See, I think my ponytail guy looks day and night better with toon shading instead of the standard shader I am currently using. But I don't like that the toon shader isn't affected by scene lighting.

haha thanks! and sorry you had to go through that if you played through all of it lol. :D:D:D

Oh, we are just getting started.:p

Today I started working on the first level for the next game. This time around, I really want to focus on texture and graphic quality as well as level design. I don't want things to be all over the place again like Potato Thriller was.

    Dev screens bam!

I really want to structure the levels properly this time and am focusing on a more modular level design workflow.
Here is the first "non-development" screenshot from the first level, which is essentially just a quick short tutorial/getting started/intro to the game before the actual game starts. :)

    More Soon!

Random gun I made in 30 minutes.

This time around I tried to focus more on details, so it looks much better. I think I might animate with some fps arms just to see it in action, really happy with it, though. Also--sorry for the bad image, I don't really have any intention to learn any of the material / shaders in Blender so I just use diffuse and a bit of glossy.

Good start. Try to make the sides less blocky. The edges are too sharp and it would be uncomfortable to hold if it was a real world item/gun. The top half looks good. Don't worry too much about the texturing or materials at first. From my experience, get the modeling down before anything. Get the proper shape and silhouette right of the 3d object. This is how I was taught. I was told, the silhouette is one of the most important aspects. If you could identify what the model is just by looking at its shape (an unlit completely black shadless model) then you made it right. Keep up the good work man. Far better then my early 3d models :) :) :)

The squeaky snowconesolid plushie mascot toy (originally from my Potato Thriller) is back in for my next game.
A useless physics object that is just there for the entertainment of kicking around and serves no purpose to the game or story whatsoever :D
