I have been researching marketing for apps with app store optimisation techniques etc many articles say to use keywords in your title of your app. So lets say if making a arcade game. See examples below:

    My Arcade Game

    Or

My Arcade Game - An Action-Packed 3D Arcade Game

Which is better? One with just the name or the other with a small description.

First one, because it doesn't have a typo in it.

On the fence still as two successful games

    - Geometry Dash has no keywords in title
    - Crossy Road does have keywords "Endless Arcade Hooper"

I wouldn't bother with describing the game in the title. Make a name that's easy to remember (the verby noun pattern works well for this). Then make the icon awesome.

Yeah - there might be one person on the planet who found crossy road by accidental happenstance keyword association.
Though might be a good strategy for off world app searches. ;)

Additionally while the Google Play Store is lenient to a fault the Apple App Store tends to be much more strict and placing terms or a description of the app in the name is against their guidelines (quoted and linked below). They don't want people gaming their systems.

This has been massively overlooked in the last year. Personally, I wouldn't even worry about that.

Just this week in the best new games section of the Canadian store :
    Invert - Tile Flipping Puzzles
    Tempest: Pirate action RPG

As time goes, the available names pool will shrink. People use the Name - Description way to get over names that are already taken. Notice the increase in names that have an exclamation mark at the end as well.
