Do you mean smoth as in the model itself (smoothed geometry), or do you mean your normals are not smothed.

Using the 3 preview hotkey in maya will not be exported no, this is simply a preview, your actual geometry has not changed and will not be exported, you can always click 'smooth' in maya to get the same results before exporting.

    Hi,

This is something that needs to be done in an external tool like Maya or Max
    Steps in Maya

    1. press 5 = Shaded display this is how Unity is going to display the model
    2. Right-click on model select Edge
    3. Shift + left-click all edges that you want to be smooth on Unity
    4. Make sure you on the Polygon option top left, then
    5. Normals - Soften Edge

Now if you export your geometry as .fbx format those edges that had been selected would be smoothed
This is nice because you might want specific edges to stay sharp.
Also, just below the Soften Edge function is the Harden edge to do the reverse.
You also can not expect an item with very sharp say 90 degree corners to now display nice and round,
just even one extra poly on the corner at 45 degrees will make the world's difference.

    Hope this helps
