    Great new stuff guys!

@dreamhead Nice toon style man, I liked the silhouette.
    @shaderbytes Beautiful golden piece!
@Mentallic3D It is a interesting idea, if you use two different light in the scene would be nice, like a blue light in the bottom. but the objects need to receive the blue light.

@Mentallic3D Thanks! Fixed the glow effect. Now the bottoms shouldn't be visible from outside. .

    Hello all,

This my take on the challenge for this month. What you see here is the sculpt for the chest concept.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: What exact time is the end of the competition? Taking into account that we are all in varying time zones. Thank you!

I was trying to figure out how the alpha maps works within sketchfab.

@Rafmorais I got transparent working by saving as a transparent background png file and putting that file in both the diffuse and alpha channel slots. Let me know if you have issues I can show you in more detail tonight. Cheers!

    Regarding the alphas and opacity
I've tried the suggestions above, but I think that I'm still doing something terrible wrong... =[
any other tips here? I'll try again later tonight...
in the meantime, what do you guys think?

Thanks everyone who liked my job! Also cogrets for the new ones! :)

    @Rafmorais

There is no secret to use the alpha maps in sketchfab. Once you have the .png file, you need to load it in diffuse channel (for the diffuse map / color map), and than load it in transparency channel (for the real transparency / alpha), and done! That is what I did here, worked fine!

I managed to finish my entry (minus the prospector character) before the deadline! Woo!
Let me know what you think.

Edit: Forgot to mention. The vert count is 5.619k. The automaton texture is 4k as well as the ground texture. I was going to resize the other texture maps (Spec, emmisive, etc) so it was smaller but I didn't get around to it.

    28 hours left!

I've been blown away by the creativity on display watching you guys make these. Even if you've hit the finish line, you've still got a bit of time to polish, fuss about the little details. Do you like the default camera pose for your sketchfab embed? Is your lighting the best it can be? Make sure to catch any last minute derps (I know they can be hard to spot when you've been staring at a piece for a long time).

Anywho, awesome work, and keep on truckin' guys!

Again, make sure to TAG your entries with "UCAC8"! You won't be considered as a finalist if you haven't tagged your entry. So tag it, and check this link to see if your entry shows up:

    https://sketchfab.com/models?q=UCAC8

Amazing idea man! really liked it, too bad that the deadline is in a few hours =[

@dreamhead hey man, it was a long month and I've been following your progress on this entire comp, congratz on finishing yours =]

@TheUsername what! amazing piece of concept!

@Thomas Pasieka thanks for the support man! =]

@Antonio Neves thanks for the tips on the alpha usage, I think that I have it all figured out haha

@Mentallic3D really liked those unity coins, nice touch!

Edit- Myself and the tech issues! hahahah, the lights are "off" but they were ON!

It looks right inside the editor, but looks wrong on the embed sketchfab aswell as on my profile page.... I'm too tired to search for a solution right now, since I've got a few more hours, I'll try something tomorrow.

Lol. Yeah.... I was way too optimistic. Apparently I did something wrong, cause when I uploaded it to SketchFab it said it had some issues with normal maps. I guess I still have a LOT to learn. But it was fun to try. I've started over to see where I went wrong. There's no way I can finish it now, but this did get me started on this particular item and I AM going to finish it, no matter what :) Just have to learn the specifics of Blender. It's a fun challenge!

@Rafmorais @Antonio Neves I think both your chests are awesome. They are absolutely my favorites! I like the other works as well :)

Good luck to everyone who wants to finish the work today!

Good to see that the last-minute tradition of the UCAC is alive and well :p

You've got to be a brave person to start an entry 2 days before the deadline!

Edit: Now that I have 1337 posts, I'm tempted to never post again...

Lol well, for me personally, I started the background research and the sketch the day after the challenge was posted. I've also searched for materials, textures and such. Maybe I shouldn't have taken so much time for that :D

The actual chest seemed so easy... and then it wasn't. But it's fun to figure out where I went wrong. I have an idea, so I'm doing it in small steps now, to see what is actually wrong :)
