The Narrator is a Dick is a narrated rage game. In this game the narrator is always trying to mess you up, or is he? He lies and cheats and tells jokes and its up to you as the Player to survive in this already dangerous land all the while a voice from above tries to ruin it all.

    -Comedy Based 2D Rage Platformer.
    -Full Controller Support.
    -A Cavalcade of Crazy Characters.
-Traps, Pitfalls, and Unfair Deaths Galore.

This game is a work in progress. And is an attempt at improving over my previous game. Your comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.

People told me not to be weird with my last game which was a mistake. I'm going full weird this time baby.

Is that a hillbilly or a redneck?
Either way - keep it up. I enjoyed following your last development, and this one is already intriguing - just not sure about the marketability of the name ;) - it's catchy though!

Since it seems that the narrator is the driving force behind the increased difficulty of this game, if players were to play the game on mute, would that theoretically make it easier?

The concept sound really interesting. I'd love to see some gameplay with voice acting in it, if you recorded any so far.

Unfortunately I don't have any voice acting yet. Trying to finish up the art assets then move to hiring a voice actor.

If you haven't hired voice talent before - you may want to consider hiring locally depending on where you live.
I recently looked into this and (even though I don't live in a media rich area) it seemed the local talent was a lot more diverse than I would of thought, a lot more affordable and open to modifying the work process to fit the request of the client.

I love the idea! It all depends on how you implement it.

Just some advice, since I've been going through this process for my project as well. You'll want to check out local theater groups around your area (assuming there are any) and post casting calls. There will probably be a lot of people willing to audition for your game even as just a resume builder. You'll definitely get some throw-aways, but every now and then you'll find someone amazing that (hopefully) isn't union.

If you were thinking of going the union route, don't. My team and I have tried several times to talk to the higher ups at SAG/AFTRA in hopes of creating a tiered compensation system by budget just like they do for their indie films. Truth is they don't have much incentive to go through that process so you'll end up paying a minimum of $800 for a four hour block of the actor's time. You'll be forced to use a legit studio which at low rates can be anywhere from $150 - $600 an hour. And then you also have to pay into the pension, which is just lovely.

Just something to think about. Love the idea of the game. I say go as weird as you can get. There are so many 2D indie games right now that you're going to need it to set yourself apart.

    Keep up the good work!

Inspired by Stanley's Parable? This looks pretty awesome. But getting the right voice will definitely be key. Are you writing the script yourself?

If you're using foul language, it may be a good idea to throw an option to censor a pool of words. It's really not that much work and it may be decision breaking for some cautious parents. Don't get me wrong, I understand that your game revolves around messing with the player, but it's just an idea to reach as many segments as possible.

    Right there :)

I'm trying to decide between a deep voice, or a nasally voice. And yes I'm writing it myself.

Not a bad idea. I'll definitely think about that :)

Hello everyone, I've just uploaded an alpha demo for the game available here

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/b1oyq8f1xo8erm0/NarratorDemo.zip?dl=0

If you'd like to participate in making the game better by playing it and providing feedback that would be awesome!
Or if you just want to hear my horrible placeholder voice acting you can do that too :)

If anyone had the chance to check out the demo I'd really love some feedback. Also here's the outline for title screen :)
