Forum doesn't send alert for watched threads if you don't "show interest" in the thread???

I haven't been receiving alerts for certain threads.
This thread for example:

even though I've set to watch the thread.

Then I see this explanation by the former Community Manager:

I can confirm this is an ongoing issue.

I've also replied to asset store threads to get no response. Finally I learned they weren't receiving the notifications, most likely due to this issue.

Good info! It sounds like this is now the default behavior of the xenforo software?
The plugin was last updated in late Jan, so it seems like it might still be supported if Unity decided this is an issue worth addressing.
