    To update on progress:
    -Power ups no longer get trapped inside of Oculus Impetus; they're destroyed if they're within him as he spawns
    -Worked more on the datalog

    Thats a great idea! Hidden content is always fun, I actually got a new controller for Christmas (among other stuff) so I will try it out! :)

    Haven't been updating much because I've just been a bit busy. I redid the power up spawn though, has a nice new distortion effect. Will do some more stuff with the cursor and datalog tomorrow and will hopefully have 0.4.8 up by friday :)

    other than the bosses and the how to play and controls section, the datalog is all done!

    V0.5.0 is finally here on GameJolt and Itch! Try it out :D


    V0.5.0

    Achievements:
    -Eye Opener I and II
    -2 Secret achievements

    Datalog:
    -Boss Menu added; still mostly empty
    -Power ups menu finished with overview image
    -Asteroids all have images redone, including overview
    -Abilities have all had their images and descriptions created
    -Achievement Viewer added

    UI:
    -Monitor icons added to Graphics/Quality settings
    -New custom cursor
    -New boss HUD

    Graphics improvements:
    -Oculus Impetus' super move tunnels improved
    -Oculus Impetus' eye is a higher resolution
    -Power ups have a new spawn animation

    Audio Improvements:
    -Menu hover sound has been shortened
    -Void's Gaze has a new piano sound

    Bug Fixes and Optimisations:
    -Physics made more efficient for Oculus Impetus
    -Mystic asteroids can no longer paralyse you after death
    -Power ups can no longer be trapped inside of Oculus Impetus
    -Many bugs caused by restarting have been fixed
    -Sprites are now atlased
    -Pause blur is disabled if FPS is too low
    -Access to play again button is locked until saving is complete

    Do you think i should just make Cosmos locked to 16:10 and 16:9, or even just 16:9? its just especially for core gameplay, you'll go off the edge of the screen in non 16:9 aspect ratios

    Very subtle, but I like it. It's not something that sticks out unless you slow it down and know what it looked like before. But it looks good. :)

    Thanks! I've made it ever so slightly stronger (8 to 10) but I feel like its better as just an extra little bit of polish than a completely new effect :)

    Got a lot to report on lately :)

    A) Weird weird bug where there are invisible asteroids and im not sure if Ive fixed it, if you see it, please let me know
    B) new explosion is here :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/exotjgpxeg8yjif/2017-02-07 20-46-02.mp4?dl=0
    C) Ive been implementing some new difficulty curves to make it a lot fairer, using a more complicated logarithm instead of a linear curve, but i have no idea if i like it at all and it will take ages to test, so if anyone wants to test it out give me a call and ill send a build over

    So i was thinking that I really oughta change the name of this game. Cosmos is too generic and general of a word that it wont be memorable, nor would the game be easy to find.

    It does feel quite bland, especially considering the game is very fast paced. However, I took a look at "fast paced" games on steam (here is the list) and most of them were oddly named. For example names like SpeedRunners, Duck Game, Distance, ect. None of them really stood out accept in a weird way. I don't really have any suggestions, yet it does seem a weird name that people remember is the best. :)

    I suggest the song-naming convention of Norwegian black metal bands. Three 2- or 3-syllable words, seemingly unrelated, just put them together anyway. Ex. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

    So... Turbo Blaster Asteroids 2000X (Number seems fitting in a space context).
    But, we must also consider the potential in abbreviation. TBA 2KX doesn't cut quite cut it. It also matches with To Be Announced. Super Asteroid Blaster 3000X - SAB 3KX. :cool:

    The current name for it is brakes, but I need a new name and icon idea. basically its unlocked at Level 15, and whilst using it you use 0.5EP/s and change your air resistance from 0.2 to 3. The effect strength is proportional to how fast youre moving

    What do you think?

    Sorry if ive been rather quiet lately or it seems like Cosmos is dead, ill just be very busy lately with exams and such so development will temporarily slow down as it did last year. What would you guys like to see worked on for V0.6.1?

    Music ducks when paused instead of pausing

    I feel like the detonate is missing something, but I'm not sure. The explosion itself looks good, but maybe it needs some kind of build up like an implosion of some sort? something quick



    what do you think? im kind of lost for ideas

    Having a quick buildup would probably be a good idea. It looks quite good though! :)

    I think some kind of build up could be good, purely visual or mechanic too? (could pull in asteroids before destroying them)

    I would probably try both, see what works the best. Also consider zooming the camera in then shooting it back to the normal position.

    Looks awesome dude! About the explosion, maybe you can add something audio related like a bass drop as a buildup to the explosion. Maybe something like this? Play around with the volume and pitch and it could end up pretty nice!

    And that seems like a pretty good idea :) I'll have to couple some kind of sound effect like that with the implosion and it should look solid :)

    In other news, I've added a new achievement called Last Stand; you get it for detonating away your last life into game over ;)

    Got some good news and bad news.
    Bad news: 5.6 update has broken about every animation in the game, bummer :/

    Good news: got the code in for another set of achievements, unstoppable (ramming into stuff with shields) also unity should be fixed in a week or so :)

    In other somewhat unrelated news, I've submitted v1.3.0 of build Automator (has been taking up all my time soon) and should hopefully go live soon :)

    Good news, V1.3.0 of BA was accepted last night!

    In terms of cosmos, ive added another achievement, "Critical Mass", for detonating 5 times in one game

    I played around with making some sound and got this

    I'm not sure, what do you guys think?

    I was thinking this at the same time as time slowing down, screen getting hazier or blurrier as the ship starts to glow, ripples around the edges with distortion as energy flies into it, before snapping back into realtime as the ship detonates, but im not sure

    Finally got some more work done on Oculus Impetus! The eye now has some pretty sweet effects when it collides with the shell :)



    Thoughts? any improvements?
