I wish you had this update done already! :p lol

I want to see how I can plug these new prefabs into my fence builder to get some (uneven) walls traversing my terrain :D

    Hi,

Just some quick shots using some of the already included torches and braziers.
Also look carefully, two different parapet top caps used in shots

    Cheers

From what I hear, there's still quite a bit of work to do on this update, but doesn't it look awesome? Definitely one of the most anticipated product updates of the year :)

There's probably quite a lot of what seem like little fiddly bits so that the update meshes in nicely with both the exterior and interior kits :)

    Hehe.

I've just finished the basics of the exterior of this.

    screen_1920x1080_2016-09-10_18-27-05.jpg

One thing I did try today was to scale the wooden tile roofs down to 0.5 on the Y axis to see how they looked and I was happy with the way they worked with the small tri's that were created for when the thatched roof update came in.

    Hey everyone.
Here are the very few easy steps required if you want to build a basic castle.

    Hope everyone liked that :)

The corners does not seem very good for being just corners, i suppose we will have the option to just leave them as corners without getting black seams and strange looking wall-top corners? : )

Looks really awesome and simple though! Love it : )

Oh no, the corners being just basic corners will be one of the options, I just wanted to show some more interesting ones here.
Haha, had I shown that people might think that I am just doing basic blocky simple castles.
The big thinking behind this is also performance. I want the user to basically be able to decide how complex or how simple he wants to have things and draw the line.
But lets face it, your town is not going to have more then one castle or more then one cathedral/church in, so you going to be able to make those nice eye-candy pieces :);)

Glad you like what you see as well :)

This castles upgrade looks fantastic. I can't wait.

Is it too late to make a request?

I use both interiors and exteriors in a smooth voxel project I am working on. I would love it if the castle battlements and other details were independent of the actual walls. I take your wall texture and add it as a voxel type then use my voxel terrain to render the walls but I use the exteriors prefabs for things like the wood post frames and roofs, etc. In this case I would love to use voxels to build the walls and use your battlements pieces and other detail parts to flush everything out.

I hope that made sense. You've been pretty good about keeping those things separate in that past but I am not positive you've considered someone might use your prefabs in the way I do. In the past I have had to go into some models and remove the wall geometry so I could access the details in some of your models. It probably is more work for you, but voxel terrain is becoming more prevalent, I doubt I am the only one who will want to do this in the future.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hi,

I am glad you like what you see so far :):):)

With all my packages being very strong modular in nature, you will be happy hear that if you look at the first screenshot little bit higher up, you can see the "CORE" blocks block out the main shapes. Then the one on the right hand side has the main wall textures snapped on.
The next step shows the low walls with parapets added as separate geometry so that "YOU" can decide how and where you want to add them.

Many of the designs will come with 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 unit long strips to help reduce mesh count if you have longer wall edges that you want to place them onto, also, with and without the underside tri-angular stone parts. This is for you might not like them or they for obvious reasons add lots of polygons.

    Cheers

Cobus's texture sheets are a breeze to rework - and create new materials for. You can do anything with them.

I don't see the purpose of that since it is not what the package was designed to be with things like building designs and style that would be completely wrong

Taken a cue from @TeagansDad (from a few pages back in this topic) about using cathedral walls from the interior kit in an external setting :)

    Cobus,

I love your work man and it saves me a ton of time! Just a humble request from an aspiring developer, if you will. Would it be possible to work in HD/PBR textures? I realize you probably downscale them on purpose for size purposes, but for the look I'm going for I need those types of textures. Thanks and I appreciate all your hard work!

Just a few images to show the usage of some of the staircases from the
    1. landscape up
    2. between terraces
    3. onto the back of the walls

Your work is fantastic, as always. In those last screenshots, however, it becomes visible that the floor textures have a pattern problem, the repetition is too visible. I've had similar problems in my projects on large surfaces as well. Something you might want to consider for the next update.

You are right ;) ( luckily the pic does say WIP :D )

I can only once now closer to release when building examples and tests see such texture adjustment requirements
I will make those adjustments to try remove that, but also keep in mind, you will have all manner op props that will be scattered around that will surely help with breaking up large areas.

I can also imaging one would more likely use other stone textures and not wood, those are my package standard 2,5m x 2,5m tiles so that the exteriors co-inside with the interiors contents :):):)

Thanks for the observation and feedback

    Cheers

I'm still here lurking in the background, been spending some of my time working on a top secret stamp project for @Shawn67 !

Looking good Cobus, I'm looking forward to getting back to this project and applying these to Shawn67's new stamps.

I found that some high-pass filtering often improves tiling repetition.

    Just to note,

That area that you see it happen is made up out of 2,5m x 2,5m tiles, so any of the existing included of your own custom textures can be used, I just added that one otherwise the back geometry with normals facing outwards would have been see through ;).
Stone, concrete, or any other wood texture can be used on the tiles that you choose to place there.

    Cheers

@S4G4N , I was just reviewing your staircase screenshots and think you'll need to redo them for the 21st century nanny state Workplace and healthy laws:

    1. You have created an unsafe working environment for soldiers inhabiting that castle as you have not provided hand rails.
    2. There is no hazard signage to warn workers and visitors of the lack of hand rails.
    3. There is no wheelchair access
    4. There are no painted yellow or high visibility lines on the surfaces of the staircase to guide workers and visitors; 50 cm inside the edge would be sufficient.
    5. Also as the roof is made of wood, there are no fire extinguishers or fire fighting equipment visible
    6. There is no "slippery when wet" or "no running on stairs" signage.
    7. You are missing the "Gift Shop this way" sign.

Anyway, it's just a few things I'd like to point out before you advanced too far in the project, that should be corrected.

    Getting closer to release.
Spent a good bit of screen-share time with Adam Goodrich from Gaia via Skype to work on the promised Gaia integration with the upcoming Village Exteriors Kit FREE Castles Update.

Can't wait until it comes out. I just got an Oculus Rift, so it will be cool to check out the new castles in VR.

Maybe I do to much chemistry, but I personally don't like the name GeNa as I read it as Germanium (Ge) Sodium (Na). What is GeNa supposed to mean?

I will ask @AdamGoodrich to come explain a bit more what GeNa is all about :)
It has grown from and matured to much more then what it started out from.

It is definitely something to look forward to

GeNa or Gena, is an aboriginal word that means "to put" or "to plant" - which is what GeNa does :)
