This is wonderful. I actually had tried to build a church from the exteriors kit and the result was so-so - the main issue being the walls (no real church windows anywhere) and the tower. Can't wait to see the final result.

The plinths do a great job of allowing you to build on a slope, and the decks help with the transition back to the terrain :D

I think I've spotted a problem in my development workflow - I spend too much time just looking at what I've got done so far rather than trying to progress. Good job it's a hobby for me :D

I hear you, I am so critical of what I achieve at times, that I end up deleting everything and starting again.

Cobus, great job on the Cathedrals, and the stone texture is really top notch.

I've made numerous attempts now and each time I'm more pleased than the previous incarnation but then something just 'happens' and I suddenly start not liking what I'm producing. At least each iteration is an improvement on the last. The one good thing to come from it is that most of what I produce can be re-tasked in some way in the next version :D

    Hey everyone,
Some new screenshots, this time testing some basic Castle designs, some City Walls and made a nice Entrance module as well. Hope you like what you see.

The walls look really cool. Though, can the walls have an interior?

Awesome Cobus, and the textures blend in with everything else. Nothing too sharp or chromatically harsh.

    Hi,

That is one of the MAIN reasons why this update is taking so long.
Those walls are 1 Interiors Kit Unit "thick" 2,5m x 2,5m x 3m tall blocks so that you can snap interiors from the
Village Interiors Kit right into it ;):)
Like with the Village Exteriors Kit, the idea is to reduce data via least polygon and textures that have to load and you as the developer can choose what you want when to load.
So can literally have a staircase run up on the inside of the wall if you want to.

Yes, I did not want it to stand out stark to the balance of the package and at the end, I am sure some users will make it even lighter, other will make it darker for their theme or game design would want that
The one is not right and the other wrong.

    Cheers
    Cobus

Looks awesome. Also a gate that comes Down instead of opens the way you have is another option. That way you can set a trap and crush the enemies.

Ohhh... Speaking of options... The drawbridge blueprint you did a while back, Cobus.. I wonder if you can have that up next to the gate and have it raise to block the gate opening in the wall and then have lowering barred gate or gate like you show within the actual gate opening?

    Cobus:

Really looking forward to this update. Just wondering if those windows can be changed, removed etc. Some small round headed windows would be good. Will there be thinner arrow loops?

How about round towers for gatehouses?

    Thanks
    Mark

Hey, first time I see you post, welcome :);)
    Arrow loops & Windows:
The "Turret" parts as with the windows are loose snap-ons, so you can move and place them where ever you want to.
The Glass sheet at the moment is the same as the Cathedrals one that came with the Interiors Kit, but I will include the UVlines file as a template so if you want to add or change the glass. What this means is that you can use a different material altogether for that.

Let me see about those round one ;)

Thought I'd have a relax day. Been doing a small test with Skymaster 3.4beta with volumetric lighting and fog. Used the default settings but altered the color a bit. Think I made it a bit too red. Also used ColorfulFX sharp image effect. HBAO trail version (will definitely be gettig this for next project). Scene made with gaia and the excellent exterior models by cobus. Other assets are standard included in gaia samples. Time of day setting was early evening. Really like all these assets. Skymaster is really nice.

It's just missing some castles in the background:)

Cobus, this has certainly been worth waiting for. These are really nice looking models, with great textures.

I know this is going to sound really picky, and you might have to start the project all over again....but...are there going to be any doorways within the turret structures? At the moment the player wouldn't be able to access the walkways when constructed.............* heads for cover* :)

Cobus new Screens look really amazing. Better than I ever thought! The front door is really well made.

Perhaps some suggestions now that you are working on the parts:
Some more "Spike Roofs" to make the castle more european / modern would be really cool. Also some rounded parts would be really welcome, since rounded prefabs are pretty rare in your packages. Some pictures so you can see what I mean (cylinder towers and spike roofs):

P.S: I know that rounded parts are not that easy and modular, but for castles they are really important.

Going to be great there in the background ;)

I am one ahead, already done that part.
Open wall backs or gaps in parapet will allow stair excess to the wall top

    Cheers

Starting to sound like work for separate Castles specific kit. With the amount of work it has taken to get to this point with squared off walls, I personally wouldn't expect something like the rounded towers and stuff to be something that would be in a free update. They look great and I love them, but I'd rather not see the exteriors kit get stalled out on castles while a lot of the smaller exteriors kit things are in the pipeline. :p

    Some great examples though!

I wouldn't call it the background. It wouldn't be a village without the exteriors pack:)

@S4G4N, I forgot to ask, do you have any arched windows and thin slot windows to add to the towers and walls?

Looking really good. Thanks for the hard graft.

I'm hoping you will be "damaging" a few of these wall units ... dragging vertexes around etc., and supply an dirty / grungy texture. Hope is always good! :)

Thank goodness you didn't have to start again :)

With the addition of castles and church buildings this will make my little villages complete. This is almost as exciting as waiting for the release of that game you've had on pre-order for 6 months :)

I'm sorry to say that I'm going to have to purchase your TAD next payday, as I've just found a use for it!

Just think.. Markets, harbors, and a bunch of stuff is still on the road map AFTER the castles update... heheh

We just reminded Cobus today that he needs to work on more of his TAD packs. I think he did that pack with intention of doing more in the series and then made mistake of making posts asking what we wanted in the Interior and Exterior kits and we overwhelmed him. lol

I know that feeling well, I've no money for another fortnight :)

Cobus this is great and I need this now, plus all of your assets added to and updated as well. :)

Thanks for showing the new arrow slit preview, sometimes it is the finer details that aren't at first obvious, that add the greatest depth to a scene.
