    Hi everyone,

The package has already been released and can be bought
    HERE

3DForge Exteriors thread specific search Bookmark for future use !!!

This is the first time that I am posting nearing the end of a project to share images and get some more user feedback, at the end of the day the it is for all of you out there.
I have always only posted completed data but I am super excited about this package that I have placed a great deal of work into it, to provide the most extensive and useful as possible package for building Medieval Fantasy Exteriors.

It is a 100% Standalone package but was designed to be 100% compatible and be a SUPER Companion Package for the very Village Interiors Kit

The package will be released with a VERY LARGE selection of ALL the smaller parts for all those that love freedom to build what they want.
As well as a good selection of ready to use buildings, props, tilable ground textures out the box to get you going fast.

As with the Village Interiors Kit (that received up to date, 9 FREE contents updates), this will only be the start with several already planned FREE contents Updated down the road.
So instead of taking another few months to complete all of the items below, I will be releasing it soon, with the planned updates following and added to the package as they get done.
I want it to be the most complete Medieval Exteriors package on the store.

Each of these FREE updates will also be released as Full Standalone Packages like with the
    1. Castles & Cathedrals Kit
    2. Catacombs & Crypts Kit
    3. Taverns & Inns Kit
NB!!! But buying the Full Exteriors Kit will end up being more than a 50% saving since ALL future updates will be 100% FREE.

If you kept an eye on the Village Interiors Kit development, you will remember that it was strongly influenced by user feedback and request, in fact the whole Village Interiors Kit was actually a user requested package to start with :)

So basically I am going to ask that you please post here but to also email any suggestions for extra contents to info@3dforge.co.za

    PLEASE NOTE:
Any user that bought the Village Interiors Kit saw how it grew and more then doubled from v1.0 to version 1.9 and will still even get more.
These updates were not trivial. They were fleshed out, proper standalone package sized contents updates that added HUGE value to your purchase.

There are several line items on the Road-Map that have been marked as such to illustrate this value upfront. *(will be a full kit, also to be sold standalone)
I will see when, but at a certain point the Village Exteriors Kit price will increase to be more in line with the added value. All the users that own it already say that it is way under-priced even as v1.0, so please do not hesitate to get this sooner rather than later.

These first screenshots is just to illustrate the easy to use modular system that the kit uses.

    BLUEPRINTS

I am rebooting www.3dforge.co.za pretty soon.
It is very useful for users to go there and see what else I have for them to sink their teeth into and view large screenshots and play some of the many live Web demos.

It will still have all of that plus lots more.

One of the new sections that I am going to add is BLUEPRINTS
It will have subsections for each of the packages that lends itself to work with the general idea.
For now the Village Interiors Kit, Village Exteriors Kit & Tile A Dungeon Sewer Kit

Basically all the existing and future "modular kits"
What users will find here is a growing selection of blueprints / recipes for designs of Interiors, Exteriors and Sewer Dungeon layouts.

    How it will work:
    1. You the user, will be presented with images of the contents of the scene file.
    2. Next to or below the images will be a download link to get the actual scene file.
    3. You download the .unitypackage that only has a scene file inside.
    4. You open the scene file found in Assets\3DForge\Blueprints\VillageExteriorsKit.
    5. You will see the buildings/designs that were on the images.
    6. Select each building one at a time and "zero" the X, Y & Z positions in the inspector.
    7. Now all you have to do is make a new folder in your buildings folder.
    8. Give it a cool descriptive name that will assist later to know the look & feel.
    9. Drag each of the buildings from the Hierarchy to this new folder one at a time.
10.And there you go, a selection of new buildings, that took you 1 minute to get into the project.

This means that you can end up easily with 100's or 1000'ss of ready to use designs at you finger tips.

The idea is that users that would love to share their designs can email me.
I will just check that as far as I can see everything is cool and add their name on the pics.

I will vet and decide which designs get added and add them as well as my own created designs
    I am going to have a v4X & v5X section for this.

Just think the extra value that this will create for package owners.
I will from time to time include my own created ones when I do actual package updates.
But not too often since the large upload is a slow process and some users could be upset having a to download a large update when they could have clicked and just obtain a 50kb file instead.

Here is a quick test file for those that are package owners to try the simple process GRAB THIS TEST FILE

With the v1.0 contents and all the FREE contents coming your way, just think of what you are going to have at your disposal.

For those who want to concentrate on the few very specific scenes that are the core of your game story can then download collections of buildings that can be used to populate the other less important ones and leave you with lots of extra time to do those special ones.

There will be scene files that will be Interiors & Exteriors combined and already complete of
Houses, Shops, Town-halls, Crafting Halls, Castled, Catacombs, Crypts, Taverns, Marketplaces, Fishing Villages, City Wall designs ans so many more.

I personally think this is an awesome idea for s many reasons.

Constructing your own builds easy easy:
    1. Build your own shapes with the CORE blocks or select from the many pre-built ones.
(these CORE blocks matches the shape and sizes of the Village Interiors Kit modular system)
    2. Add the appropriate wooden Frame and then hide/uncheck it once you happy.
    3. Add the wall blocks selecting from 6 textures sets.
    - 2 x Plaster textures (old & new)
    - 2 x Wooden textures ( Vertical and Horizontal planks)
    - 2 X Stone textures
    4. Un-hide the frame from STEP 2.
    5. Add roof of choice from 5 styles.
    6. Baked scene to just check final result.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, bookmark it for there is still lots to come.

    Excellent looking kit, dude...

One thing I might want to suggest you add to this kit is decals to break the monotony of the walls (considering people might be making entire towns/villages from this). Say some ivy growing up the side of the wall, or some battle or fire damage etc.

Also, don't forget about wooden footbridges etc.

The rest of this kit and it's planned features are looking amazing! Eagerly looking forward to the release! :D

This is looking good. I'll echo MrDude's suggestion for decals for the walls, etc. :)

Would something like this be possible? Either with release 1.0 or a possible future update? :) (Yes, I know it's from Skyrim, but it's a good example and much better than me trying to describe it)

Awesome as expected. Echoing both of the above. Can we do decals easily with the Standard Shader? I've not looked at that yet.

Maybe in the plants update, a range of climbing plants and "flat backed" mesh plants could be made? That would be pretty good, and help loads to break any feel of repetition.

Thanks everyone for the replies :)
It is great to see the excitement for the release.

I was looking at adding decals, even still some for the Village Interiors Kit with users then applying them manually or with a tool such as Quick Decals with lots of features such atlassing the used decals into one to save draw calls and such

    @MrDude
    - The Ivy texture is already on the Base texture sheet, but with the flora (trees, bushes, flowers and grasses)
lots will be added like you have suggested.
    - Wooden & stone bridges are a given for the base package.

    @smada luap
    - Skyrim is an awesome game so would not mind getting inspiration from there.

    @Whippets
Thanks for the suggestions, they are all good

    Cheers

I am really looking forward to the exteriors kit - it is something I have been hoping for quite some time :) I like the ideas about decals to add variation and would like to continue on from that: would it be possible to add some effects and small props that would allow for building more interesting houses? Things like animated weather vanes, different kinds of chimney smoke, various roof textures such as grass, tiles, wooden slats, etc? Maybe even some small details such as windows where the shadow of an inside curtain is being opened and closed every so often? I guess one could sum it up as creating 'signs of life' which would (for me), nudge this pack into the next level of essential assets.

    Can't wait!! :)

Loving the looks of this as well.. After buying the interiors kit early on and seeing the time and work you put into expanding it, purchase of the exteriors is going to be a no brainer! Going along with the decals suggestion as far as battle and/or fire damage.. Is there any possibility of ruins? Would be something nice for both the interior and exterior pack to have burned out buildings and maybe even some at various stages of collapse. Any chance something like that would be added as well?

Keep up the awesome work! Been watching development of this on your Facebook page and will be following here anxiously awaiting release!

I definitely cant wait. I do want to see buildings with the roof going in front like that skyrim house if possible. that will help variate the buildings.

I really like the fact that the external kits and the internal kits will function together.

    @LadyAth
Long time no see :), great to hear from you and getting suggestions.
Things like chimneys and other items will be great to help create special places in your Village/Town.
Don't just want one chimney and each time you walk past one, it just looks the same as if you running in circles.
You want the player to be able to get to know areas and recognize them by what they see there and made the spot unique.

    @Shawn67
    - The damaged/burning buildings, Prefabs is definitely part of the Update road map (adding it now)
I was thinking that so many story lines have wars bandit raids and conflict that it would be dumb to not add it.
    - Maybe when the Flora contents is added you will be able to do like semi overgrown buildings,
so a little village with an Inn, Stables, 3-5 Houses that is in use, Church and then a bunch of
derelict buildings one or two smouldering/burning

With the base release there is no thatch roof texture, but will absolutely be one of the mains when the base
texture sheet gets a second base texture sheet, meaning All textures gets to be doubled up, 6 more wall textures, 2 new roof textures, all wooden textures new, basically the base date will possibly double.

Awesomeness - love your "Signs Of Life" ideas. Just what's needed. Window frames that can be open or closed - even if the "interior" is a fudge. Doors that are hinged and can be opened/closed with script too.

The doors will be exported with axis of rotation on the Y-axis.
Shutters there will be two different styles those that open and hinge sideways and those that flip up and kept there with something like a stick to prop it open.
With them also having a correct axis of rotation, game builders can do so things like make then fla close and move around via "wind" building on the cool "signs of live" idea from @LadyAth

Yeah, can imagine a burst of dust and maybe a small amount of leaves blowing a small whirlwind then it bangs closed or open.
Tie that together with a spotlight from the window switching on and off to be like the light that pours out and gets blocked

lol.. Yeah, I know.. But having awesome art assets for the scripts to work with many times is the larger battle for us coder types.. So is the package done yet? :p *hides behind Whippets* heheh

Seriously though, my project is still in very early stages, so no rush.. But seriously stoked about what you are putting together and the possibilities. :)

Thanks for the compliment, want to make sure this is my best package by far.

I am getting on the edge and am excited to release the package myself :),
It is always cool to see what users come up with and creative feedback as to what can be added to make the package even better

Okay... I hate to say this but no kit will be complete without a functional wind mill :D
It's like rocks and trees... I can't believe the assets store isn't overflowing with them already :D

First time I saw it was back in the days of Torque then in 2008 when I first created my dialogue engine and I partnered up with a guy to do a combined demo scene with my descriptions bringing his Fantasy Village to life...

More recently I found a super awesome fantasy scene with a windmill that just made the level for me. It's big and it's animated so it's both a focal point and a landmark to help you know where the hell you are! :p

Please see about adding one of those in your kit, yeah? :) Thanks

Many different types of windmill. Fixed sail, rotary, water pump... yes we need them all :) (Especially for those of us who need windmills for milling wheat and oats). No village is complete without a mill, water pump, laundry stream, and many other things :)

Not only will there be a windmill with the rotational part separated so you can control speed and rotation direction
there will also be a waterwheel / mill-house.
If I can add more such unique building I will, just post suggestions

See that image from Skyrim (above), there are big round post frames that allow porches, barns, lean-tos to be built without the wall sections.

Also, barns, porches, and lean-tos often have shallower sloping roof sections (as do a lot of houses, so possibly doubling up on roofing with a shallower slope version would be cool :)

HAHAHA, that gave me a good chuckle
I am going to make sure that the package is very extensive but then after that move onto other projects.

A good selection of chimneys will be there as part of the Base release.

I own www.tileadungeon.com , so with the Tile A Dungeon - Sewer Kit having been received so very well and users loving the large tile system, I have several planned packages with each a completely different theme.

Two completely new modular systems never used in any Asset Store packages each with several planned themed packages ...

I have altogether more than 40 planned projects on paper, so yeah, I have my work cut out for the next 100 years :)

    Cheers

Work "with" current modular systems so that your library of useful assets will grow.

I don't want to limit you, I want to empower users to do better and more :)

Are there any plans for being able to create buildings that aren't "square"? ie. corners that aren't 90degrees to each other, or even rounded walls (as for turrets, etc.)?

I am having fun, It is great to get user input and feedback.
I am sure from a user side it is great to see that you can contribute and help shape the final results.

Heck, if I was planning/building a game, I would love to have to have access to the art package developer :) and his design process

With the feedback I can off the bat add to the list at the top, but some of the requests I will have to look at it carefully since whatever I do needs to work with all the rest, and I do not want to get myself into a situation where I said yes and then not deliver becasue I was over excited to just say yes.

When I say yes I mean yes, but the ones I do not know I will say so.

Please do remind me at a future time if it appears that I have forgotten, there is so much I have to keep track of :)

    Cheers

    We are loving it XD

Double door sets for Town Halls, Libraries, and such like.
    Double window sets for manors
    Covered bridged walkways
Heavy Stone corner meshes to add on afterwards
Thatch (which I think was already mentioned)
    Large windows for shop fronts

    Draw bridge pieces
Iron gates (hinged single, hinged double, raiseable - I know, we may need to script them, but would love to make sure the graphics are there)
Not just castle type walls but maybe options of more primitive wooden walls and earthen walls as well?
Any chance of adding primitive village pieces? Thinking native american / other tent type villages or earthen villages?

    All the door options doable
    Heavy Stone corner meshes
Thatch most definitely (wont be with base release though, but in the road map) ==> added to road map

    @Shawn67
As part of the base install there is a HUGE selection of fence/railing types
    - Metal (spearheaded)
    - Wooden planks
    - Decorative embossed(normal mapped) wooden
    - Woven wooden/sticks
    - Round poles and planks

Modular Wooden Walls can be cool, will be using them with the Barnes and such structures

Will add Earthen Villages to get to look into

Oh yes! Tree based! That would be perfect for my woodland fey! I had looked for something like that in the asset store and wasn't able to find anything other than very low poly type stuff. Would love treehouse parts, platforms, bridges, ladders, ramps... Wonder if Cobus is starting to regret posting yet, Whippets? heheh

HEHEHE, no regrets, but reality is also there, at the end I can not just work on one package and add all possible themes to it
It makes no financial sense to stay on just one project for too long for I need to make a living from the income :) as in time spent on.

But by no means stop the suggestions coming, you are after all helping yourselves here, be it extra contents for this package or secondary suggestions for future themes large packages.

Adding to the current themed package is great, but some ideas deserve there own FULL extensive packages that can blossom all on there own, don't want to end up adding small titbits of stuff that would make FULL Products.

If you have such ideas, then please email me on info@3dforge.co.za I am very open for suggestion for actual full packages.

    Cheers

Totally get it.. And I could totally understand something like tree village being another kit. Maybe smaller kit containing both interiors and exteriors of just treehouse type village assets. Or again, two large kits if there are enough pieces to merit pulling them apart... Hmmm.. maybe it would contain the forest pieces too.. Large redwoods and huge oaks.. I'll quit derailing this thread and put some thought into it and email or PM you with ideas..

The GOOD news is that future themed packages will be Interiors & Exteriors all in one go.
most definitely modular as well and fitting with current packages.

My biggest overall goal is to build a range of packages that can be used together and make all believable to be part of the same world that you lovingly create and dream of building your game world in.

The Medieval Fantasy themed Interiors worked out well as a separate kits and it really is HUGE prefab count wise.
(think it works out 3cents/prefab) and I wanted to make a similar or bigger Exteriors package to compliment it and could also be used as Exteriors Standalone.

Future Packages will be large, but more specific to a theme, like say Post Apocalyptic, you can not go and break that into different packs, but Medieval Fantasy is way to large to add all to one package.

    Thanks for understanding :)

Aslo, you would want this package sooner rather than later :):):)

    Cheers

Just some thoughts since you use the assets at the end of the day

Concerning coliders, I have had no negative comments from any previous packages at all.
The staircases and such, everyone happy with the way there pre-done in the Interiors kit ?
