That's pretty cool - thanks for sharing.

Remarkably similar to today's interface. I suppose if it ain't broke, don't fix it :)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Just shows how well thought out things were for them to still be ideal 6 or so years later.

You don't want to go back to those versions, believe me.

You can hit up: http://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/unity-1.1 :and work your way forward to see how Unity's changed since 1.1. I had never really gone back before 2.5, but it's kind of cool to go through and see the history of Unity via the What's New...

As one of the Unity artists that made demos for Unity back in the Unity 1.x days I'm a bit jealous that past versions of Unity's interface are wiped from people's memory while my 5 year old demos are still available for download to show their extreme age ;-)

Ethan worked on the "Avert Fate" FPS, as well as the "3D Platformer Tutorial" project. I only wrote the documentation and took the pretty screenshots.

Ethan did the artwork and (a depressingly young) Forrest Johnson did most of the scripting for that tutorial, which was originally created for Unity 2.0. (I think I did the music and sound effects as well, but my memory of that period is already getting hazy.)

Ethan also sported quite the beard back then. The kind of beard that you only ever expect to see accompanied by the sound of "Duelling Banjos".

I used XNA game studio before Unity ~2009-2010 and around Unity 3 it really started appearing on youtube and the internet.

I remember seeing the lighting and scene view and thinking how amazing it was. In XNA GS there was no scene, you arranged assets and code in a folder hierarchy and positioned everything in code, then chose an export target and kicked off a build to see if it worked. Being able to arrange stuff and have play mode was a huge leg up.

The whole live editing of variables and live scene view is what keeps me coming back to unity every time. There is nothing comparable
