I just started messing with the 3D tutorial but it's not going as the tutorial docs say it should.
On page 12, it says to:
- open the project and view Scenes -> TheGame scene.
I'm assuming this means to double-click on "TheGame", which I did.
- Open the Objects folder in the Project Pane
- Drag the Lerpz Prefab into either the Scene View or the Hierarchy View
I dragged into the scene view
- Click on the new Lerpz entry in the Hierarchy and rename it to Player
- Keep the Player object selected, move the mouse over the Scene View and tap
the F (focus) key to center the view on the Lerpz model.
- Move Lerpz onto the raised platform with the Jump Pad (the niche with the yellow
chevrons), near the Jail. (See the screenshot on the next page.)
I don't see any platform. Just gray space. The scene view doesn't show anything other than the robot guy hovering in the gray void. I can't see anything else no matter how far I zoom out. "Game" view shows the whole thing though. |

This is most likely due to the fact that you were just looking at the Island Scene which is rather large compared to the Lerpz Scene. Somewhere in your Hierarchy View is the Level geometry. Go through each Object in the Hierarchy and press "F" in the Scene View for each one until you focus on the Level geometry. _________________ Ethan Vosburgh - Artist at Unity Technologies

No dice
I tried every single item in the hierarchy and all children, but "f" does nothing.
I tried changing the location of the robot to 0, 0, 0, and he disappeared. Not even "f" brings him into view. Just a gray void now... |

The Scene View needs to have focus when you press "f"... not the Hierarchy View. _________________ Ethan Vosburgh - Artist at Unity Technologies

Ok found it. If there's nothing in the scene view then clicking the scene window unselects anything in the hierarchy list.
So if you can't see anything, you can't select anything to focus on
Once I zoomed out a LOT, I was able to see the selection outline when I clicked something in the hierarchy window, then click exactly on the object and focus. |

Your cursor just needs to be hovering over the Scene View. So selecting something in Hierarchy, then move cursor over Scene View and press "f". _________________ Ethan Vosburgh - Artist at Unity Technologies

Ok, cool.
Next problem:
On page 18/19 it says:
| Quote: | Our next step is to adjust the Character Controller. At the moment, the Capsule Collider
it uses is located too far down in the Y axis, so Lerpz stands on thin air. (You can
see the Collider's position in the Scene View: it's the long blue cylindrical wireframe
shape.) We need to change the Center Y value.
Position the Capsule Collider as shown in the screenshot above. (A little experimentation
suggests setting the Character Controller’s Center Y to 1.03 will align its lower end perfectly with Lerpz's feet.) |
How do you adjust the Capsule Collider's Y position?
There isn't anything called "Capsule Collider" in the hierarchy, and attempting to click on the capsule-shaped wireframe just selects the platform or the robot. Attempting to change the Y position under "Transform" just changes the entire robot's Y-position.
Also, on page 18 it gives a screenshot of what the inspector should show for the Third Person Controller script. On mine, the numbers are up to 10x out in some cases:
The tutorial shows 80 speed smoothing, and 0.3 trot after seconds. Mine shows 10 speed smoothing and 3 trot after seconds. Also, the tutorial's version can wall jump while on mine it is unselected. Should I be changing these values to match the tutorial? or will it mess up other parts? |

i have the same problem right now, how to adjust the freaking Capsule Collider, i can see it but not select it.
Driving me mad already :/
Also while my Lerpz has a perfect position in the scene view, when i hit play he suddenly is a bit in the air and on a little different position.

the capsule collider is part of the character controller itself so you adjust it through the center settings (and the others) on the character controller in the Inspector. _________________ Technologies: Unity Pro, iPhone Advanced

i dont even see a capsule collider... I see a green thing that looks similar but its not around the body of lerpz but some feet away and when i change its position i change the camera...
also in the game view lerpz is up in the air while hes fine in the scene view. This is costing me an hour already for such simple stuff :/ |

| The problem I'm having with the platform tutorial is on p. 28. When I delete the jet particle effect and place the prefab under torso I no longer see the particle effect at all. |

| Got it figured out. Dragging and dropping right into the scene worked. D&D into the hierarchy didn't though, so not sure if there is an issue there. |
