|
|
|
SpringFling for iPhone is now on the App Store for the low price of $.99
iTunes Link: http://bit.ly/springflinggame
EDIT: v1.1 has been released with lots and lots of fixes to squash the bugs from the v1.0 release. Now you can jump higher and higher, bug free.
Also, as service to our fans, we've included 9 new outfits for Mr. Spring including as well as a new powerup: Ass-saving fans. Upon picking up the powerup, these fans will deploy and act as a shield from death while simultaneously giving you a jump power boost due to the high winds shooting up at you. They'll really save your ass at times. Check out two screenshots of some of the new additions to SpringFling
This is a free update to SpringFling (Still only $0.99 to buy) and future updates will continue to be free. I would appreciate an updated review of the game or addendum summarizing the new changes on your website, since many issues have been addressed in v1.1 (and more to come!) Thanks very much.
Game Info
SpringFling is an engaging and addictive vertical platformer for the iPhone set in the beautifully rendered world of SpringTown.
"Have you ever wanted to be a spring? No? Oh, sure you have! Imagine the cool breeze in your face as you fly skyward, avoiding certain death in the cavernous depths below, all while impressing your fans with your high flying springy antics. Fling your way up tree branches, fly through sewers, scale waterfalls, and collect silly hats, all while looking super fly. Kids still say that these days, right?"
The game touts a promising and simple game design philosophy with the primary goal to "go up". A simple swipe on the touch screen controls the compression of a small, cute spring character, causing it to fly into the air from platform to platform. Collect powerups, recharge your spring power, and go higher and higher up through millions of different level combinations set in 5 unique worlds. Every level features a brand new play experience and infinite height for maximum score potential.
SpringFling features:
* Online leaderboards - Challenge your friends and see where you rank in the world
* Achievements - Collect trophies for your mastery of the fling
* Spring customization - Trick out your spring with hats, moustaches, and disguises
* Millions of level combinations with five hand-crafted worlds
* No height cap! All levels are infinitely tall, giving you the ultimate challenge
* Original soundtrack written exclusively to complement each world
* Multiple unique powerups to help you: Rockets, balloons, parachutes, pogo sticks and extra spring power!
* Realistic physics with PhysX integration
* Facebook and Twitter integration using the AGON Social Platform

The game is available on the App Store for the low sale price of 99c. Visit the game website at http://springflinggame.com and follow Mr. Spring on Twitter: @springflinggame (http://twitter.com/springflinggame)
EDIT: I've edited the first post to reflect the availability of SpringFling on the App Store.

It was fun making the different levels, especially the chalk level for the game. Still have about three more levels to make, so check back in a few weeks!

Updated first post to include the new waterfall level. Yes, it has uv animation to simulate falling water.
Need feedback/testers!
If anyone has any feedback or ideas for the game, please let me know. I might be able to post a 1-level web player demo of the game if anyone is interested in testing out the game that way, or anyone interested in beta testing can send me their iPhone UUID and I'll send them a build.

Had a chance to see this game first-hand and I have to say it has the slickest menu UI I have ever seen, with the great animations.
The gameplay is pure win too. If you haven't sent over your UUID to get a test build from gtjuggler yet, you should! You'll earn the gratitude of a fellow developer AND you'll get to play the game before anyone else for free.

I really dig this idea, the movement mechanic is brilliant for the iPhone. Looking forward to giving it a try!

Okay, here's the 1-level webplayer beta demo of SpringFling. The movement mechanics are there but stat leveling, powerups, pickups, achievements, other features are omitted (or not implemented yet!).
Please leave feedback.
Oh, also I need to fix the fact that the music restarts when you hit retry. That's definitely annoying

| A nice derivation of "icy tower". I don't find it much original, but congratulations for your motivation to take this project thus far, working only at nights and weekends.

Mortiis, yes, this is definitely inspired by the classic Icy Tower. I played a lot of it back in the day. This web demo only showcases basic player movement and not the upcoming checkpoint powerup/stats system. Although, I can see where you're coming from with it being similar to other vertical platformers, as they both share the same genre.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not like "Hah! I found the source of your clone! Your project is doomed!". I have much respect for any developer out there, trying to produce something. I hope it will turn out great in the final build.

This is definitely one of the more polished unity games I've played. The basics work really nice and with extra powerups, this should be really fun game.
I did got stuck 2 times, though. One time in mid air (just after a pitstop) and once between the little gap between a platform and the left wall.
The one thing I found a bit frustrating was when I launched the spring high up the air, missed the platform and fell down. There was no way to somehow catch the spring and launch him back to safety, so the game felt a bit unforgiving sometimes.
but overall nice work.
ooh and I beat the 350 limit

Heh. Ding ding ding , winner! Nice. I'll get you that code once its out.
Both of the stuck times you've encountered, I've also seen. I need to find some kind better way of getting the player out of penetrated situations. I'm guessing the character was doing a springing animation when it was stuck? That means it was in 'flying' state and never got the signal that it should be in collision state. Hmm. I'll have to try to figure that out before launch. Thanks for the heads up!
