    Hi all,

Finally I decided to begin a new scenery. I'm now using unity 5. My goal this time is to create a building (the inn).

I'm using maya for modeling, mudbox for sculpting and substance painter for PBR textures.
For trees and bushes, I'm using Speedtree.
And last but not least, for ground shader :RTP.

I'll try to update this thread with wip images and of course if you have some questions, don't hesitate !

Here's first screenshots . In unity (wip version) . The entrance in mudbox and substance painter.

    Thanks !

    Thank you Archania!

Today I'm working on the giant tree clutching the inn.
The tree is made with speed tree.

But first, a screenshot of the sculpted door:

Reminds me of the inn of last hope (think that was the name of the inn fro. The Dragonlance series).

Amazing work, do you plan to have this for the unity store or is it for a project ?

It's a personal project. It's hard to sell a project like this on the store because I'm using a lot of assets purchased on the store (and speedtree does not allow to sell trees)

    This looks amazing, great work!

Question: How's Mudbox working for you? I'm actually planning on getting it, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Whenever I try to ask this question all I get is "Get Zbrush"

Indeed about SpeedTree, i was only refering to the house as a standalone model :).

    thanks :)
I prefer mudbox because it's the tool I'm using @work, but others artists use zbrush and the tool looks powerful. (but the interface is too messy for me, I like the simplicity of mudbox)
A free alternative : sculptris but I don't know if you can extract normal maps.

It's not possible, because the tree and the house are closely linked :)

Yeah, the UI of Zbrush is dreadful from what I've seen and heard. But anyway, thanks for the info, I'll most likely consider getting Mudbox as well (I can apply for a 3-year student license, so I won't have to worry about money). :)

I love zbrush's capabilities but I just cant use it. It drives me insane, the movement and camera controls are stupid. Coming from Maya, Mudbox is like second nature to me, and really I think if you have the right alphas and stuff and understand workflow of it, you can do anything that you could do in zbrush, particularly if you use substance for the texturing.

I was thinking the same thing before I saw your post. Great minds!

I tried zbrush 3 separate times - thinking I would get used to the completely illogical UI and controls, and why do I have to do things that way - before buying Mudbox 1.0 before Autodesk bought it.
I even gave it one more chance because as @CastleIsGreat attested to - zbrushes capabilities are awesome - especially the zsphere posing (idk if that's what it is called).
But after a total of 120 nonconsecutive days of trying out the demos - I decided to spring for another seat of Mudbox Autodesk edition because my 1.0 license was not transferable.
What I like about Mudbox is it's ease of use, and layering, and masking. I actually just really like it's simplicity.
Sculptris is also a really nice - light tool, but there is no texturing tools in Sculptris. They have materials you can apply to the sculpt, but they do not export. Texturing has to be done externally, but if you have a good workflow, and perform UV creation before importing into Sculptris for sculpting, it works just fine for sculpting. Normals will need to be generated in an external app also. I've used Max before, but you can also xNormal.

@botumys Awesome looking inn. May consider varying the color value of the vines on the walls just a little bit. They stand out because they are pretty much the same color.

A test with new vines , I tried mapped geometry with vine texture on it, but I have lighting issues.

You've got some talent bud, I have it too, I just don't know how to use it very well yet in 3d modeling... The pics are great looking!
