This is a gif from Astro Bouncer, which I'm working on. I tried to make a death animation that is violent but comical and relevant to space at the same time, and I think the result is nice.

@Mister D that looks so awesome!I love the fact that his wings are not "perfect" and have little holes in them.A night scene in the forest would really compliment him.

I haven't posted in these forums in a long time, but I'm very eager to show what I've been workin on for the past few months.I worked as an environment/prop artist for an upcoming game called Project Mythargia and it's been a really awesome journey for me.

If you are looking for more than just a few images below, you can check the indiedb link of the game for some exciting upcoming content : http://www.indiedb.com/games/project-mythargia!

Thanks Neptune! Just using the Sonic Ether post bloom with my own little simple ShaderForge Shader. Both are amazing additions to unity and well worth the purchase!

Amphibious fighter / exploration jet (loosely) based on late 1940s tech. More info here. For a project that's still in silent running, won't be an aircraft used in gameplay directly but might be an unlockable bonus to explore in. Already have it flyable using UnityFS, and can land on water using SUIMONO 2

Hmmm...a dark damp cave? Looks legit. There couldn't possibly be a minidungeon with death traps, bloodthirsty monsters, and phat loots inside it.

    SaraR-2.png

I'm trying to evolve the style I used in The Hero's Journey. This time, the trees, mountains, and towns are going to be fully 3D objects; I'm going to make the game so that everything that's in the background is 3D, but characters are always 2D. I feel that will help to address some of the consistency problems I had with my art style in the last project, but while still keeping the look as inspired by medieval art.

There's parts of it I obviously need to clean up (the mountains I have to redo because the file got corrupted, but Unity is still reading it just fine...somehow), but I will later. Right now, I'm barreling ahead towards my vertical thin slice of the game. What do you all think of this approach, and what things can I do to make it more homogenous?

EDIT: Posting was good for my mind, it made me realize my grass looked horrible. It still looks horrible, but at least now it goes better with the mountains.

    SaraR-3.png

EDIT the Second: Posting helps more than you'd think. I thought the lighting that the water depends on was obtrusive, so I changed the shaders to the 3D objects to 'Unlit (Texture)', and noted that I had some color correction to do. Previously, I wasn't using GIMP, so I couldn't; however, in GIMP I have such tools and the previleges conferred thereby. So, I did just that.

    SaraR-4.png

I also created the Map Piece for a Castle Town. It has some flaws, like the mountains and cave pieces, but it's not too bad.

I like the red mountains... however, the low poly nature at the moment somehow makes them look miniature, like they are toy mountains, compared to the higher detail of the rest... I presume if you add textures etc that will go away though.

I actually had an opposite effect: The mountains look massive and intimidating ( reminds me of the mountains in Fallout NV ), while the trees look meh, and the detailed texture of the ground completely ruins the immersion for me.

You can't please them all haha :D

I think something that would help with the mountains is actually if you turned on Vertex Smoothing for them (select all vertices, then in the Vertices side-tab, put faces, edges, and vertices to render as Smooth.) Then create a suitably rough, rocky texture for them.

I love it! Never thought to do that skeletal style animation to pixel art, the result is brilliant.

So, the problem with the foreground dirt, is that the checker pattern at that size is bewildering to the eye. If the checkers were larger, and the contrast between light and dark checkers much smaller, it would help it to be less bewildering.

Though, personally I wouldn't use checkers on a dirt tile. A different, but still subtle and relatively undetailed pattern would sell the fact that A) it's dirt, and B) you walk on it. As a rule, something mundane should be less detailed, and less eye-grabbing than something that is interactable.
