well it's good that you want to give it a shot at free-handing the retopo. That's a great way to learn a skill. Learn how to do it the hard way, then using automated tools are easier to use since you have a better understanding for how the retopo flows :D knowledge is power :)

in my opinion it looks good for a low poly. If you do some detailed textures, you can make it stand out like crazy. Keep up the great work :D

Here is a small mock up for an upcoming game my brother and I are working on for Android (And hopefully iOS soon). We're getting close to finishing it and I figured I should start sharing with the community to see what some people's impressions are.

Made a very customizable optimizing script, in the future I'll probably use LOD groups.

Which version of hot dog guy do you guys like better?
The one of the left that has teeth and a nose? Or the one of the right that is more simple and does not have any extra facial features?

My opinion, I would say without the nose and teeth, but again, that's just my opinion. Both look good though ;)

Thanks, yeah I also kind of like that one more too because it looks more cartoony. I think it looks like Roger from American dad though. I think I will just keep both. The one of teeth and a nose will be the father of the one without the facial features. The teeth and nose make him look older and more developed. I'll make the no nose one look more child like. :D

By the way, your low poly work looks awesome! That is very beautiful art style bro! :)

Thanks! Great to hear that of my work :D

For the father and son hotdog character idea, sounds great and yeah, I think the no nose one look a little younger will work perfectly!

How many triangles do you have ? I think that you could easily remove 50% of the triangles.
Otherwise the model looks good. For a first model it is a very good work btw.

The triangle count is 3,878 tris. Thanks for the kind feedback! :) I'll try to remove some triangles. What parts do think could be reduced?

Is this model for a fps game or top down ? depends on this mostly, but you could remove a lot on the "eyes" and the "tube". the knees too, in fact dont be afraid to try things, you make a back up, then remove edges and compare the result.
Every thing dont need to be round.

I disagree with Paradoks, you have a solid looking model and the polycount is acceptable. You could remove a few of the triangles, but not anywhere close to 50%.

Thanks for the feedback! I managed reduced the tris to ~2700 without it being visible.

@Paradoks It's a guard from my FPS game H.A.U.N.D. It's inspired by Wolfenstein, Doom and Fallout.

it's the expert fight then :D
My character you can see a few posts before has full head + 10 fingers and is less than 2000 triangles.
I bet i could get the Dag Tholander s model and reduce it to less than 1900 tris.
btw he reduced it allready 30%.

well, for a first model, I must admit that's really good. I agree reducing the poly count was a good idea and reducing it to around 2700 is really good. Keep practicing and you'll get better and better each time. Don't be afraid to try new things. This is how you learn and improve your skills. Especially when you have a great community like Unity to get feedback from :D

    thanks.
On your model you could remove maybe 100tris more:
the eye don't need that much faces, and the cylinders too.
    anyways good job !

@Paradoks The cylinders and the eyes aren't as round as they seem, The eyes are made out of circles with 10 segments and the Cylinders are made out of circles with 12 segments. Can you post a wireframe of your character? I'd really like to see the topology. Watching other people's work is a good way to learn.

Wow. That's the most beautiful piece of art i've ever seen!

The eyebrows seems to be floating in front of her face
though, But the lemon skin looks pretty realistic.

hahahaha I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. But thank you. :D
This is just a really goofy game project that I am not taking seriously at all. I just wanted to make simple and
really goofy looking characters that might be funny. The lemon and potato characters you see are characters I quickly just modeled and textured simply. There is also a hotdog character and many others. But there are so many issues with the textures and models themselves. They are meant to be quickly done characters with not that much attention to detail and complexity. Like, these are the kind of models that cg artists are suppose to mock and make fun of because of how bad they are. Well, at least thats what I thought would happen. Your comment honestly made my day and I think that is awesome that you like them so much. Thank you so much sir :D :)

I also really like the characters. They express my inability to create complex detailed realistic characters like the ones in next gen games. Characters like nathan drake from the uncharted series or snake from mgs series are the type of characters I always truely wanted to create but was never really capable of such amazing artwork. lol

@snowconesolid Hahah I was a tiny bit sarcastic with the first line, But they're pretty unique characters. If you clean the models up a little bit, and add some textures to hands and such, it could become a quite good character model actually.

And i was being totally serious about the lemon skin, it looks very much like a real lemon with that normalmap.

Good luck with the character modeling :)! You'll get better at it the more you practise it, those characters are WAY better than my early ones BTW.

Second attempt at a Sci fi level. It's a bunch of modular tiles all drawing from a single material. Currently only has AO and normal textures straight out of xNormal.

Nice design, always glad to see modular stuff being made! But needs work on the materials and details. Looks a bit too much like a bathroom imo. Also those grates in the middle of the floor look like they'd make walking uncomfortable and it's not really clear what they are.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing more!

Wonderful little picture of inside a space ship I'm modeling--well, an entire space ship kit so I can make a level I need to.

Only image effect is Bloom (non-optimized), rest is the lighting settings and the normal maps / textures at work. And the slightly blue light color that gives it a sort of calm feeling.

I spent like 3 hours texturing 3 hallway models, normal hallway, hallway with a vent entrance, and an angled hallway for turns. By far my best texture work although some parts don't tile correctly, but I'll fix that tomorrow.
