    Hi Everyone,
So I was curious, now that unity 5 is out what are the next big Unity features everyone is excited about? Long term or short term? Speculation is fine too (well to me that is), remember this is just a for fun thread.

What I'm excited about is the idea of a dynamic lighting system that can light a fully procedurally created world that was briefly mentioned in a FAQ as an R&D project.

    Particles and Animation.
Particles, after playing with popcornFX, I would love to see a few more advanced options and flexibility added to the native particle system. Nothing over the top, but a few more features like better mesh control, or generation (ribbons), deeper hooks, stuff like that.
Animation, the stuff that has already been mentioned that is the works (retargeting, stability, deeper control of the API), just in general putting some love in to it. I like mechanim a lot, but the editor interface still feels a bit unfinished.

Here's the official 5.x roadmap. You have my permission to spread it across the entire internet, and inform everyone:

So, not much straight between 5.1 and 5.2, but a steep learning curve from 5.4 to 5.5

Meh, it's pretty common for Unity releases to get up to f5 or f6, and even f7 in one case (that was Unity 4.0 though).

Why are tickets to Tokyo Unite 2017 four times as expensive as in previous years. In Tokyo general tickets for the previous 4 Unites were 5000 yen if you bought early and 10,000 yen at the door. This year they are 19,000 if you buy early and 30,000 yen at the door. Ridiculous!

(note: Student tickets are 5000 yen if you buy early. I wish there were similar cheap tickets for retirees, which I am, and can not afford to pay 19,000 yen to attend).

Not much moves on the roadmap until the very last minute. ´ Terrain ´ has been just listed as ´Terrain´ for a year now without even a description. Particles and 2D are the hot items at the moment.

This thread is from 2015, which coincidentally is the last time the OP actually even visited the forums

I guess what I posted still makes it relevant though.

Looks like Whatever is coming whenever.

The cost of putting on Unite in Tokyo has been steadily increasing, so while we do what we can to keep the prices low/the same, this year the rising costs and the new venue have made it where we had to raise the price. At the very least, we'll bring up your idea for retiree pricing to the event planners.

I'm no longer working on predictions, I believe @Arowx has taken over all and any duties in this respect.

Joking aside the beta section and blog have some golden nuggets of information of what great improvements are coming to Unity.
    • Multi-threaded transforms that can boost performance and when combined with the new PhysX upgrade can allow origin shifting for massive worlds.
    • C# 6(+?) Mono improvements moving up to Mono 4.6 and SGen garbage collection (hopefully no more GC spikes to drop your games FPS) and fingers crossed improved performance.
    • Cool 2D Features like Tilemapping and many more that will make 2D games easier to make out of the Box.
    • Cinematic tools like Timeline.
    • New Improved Input System.
    • ... And lots more check out the betas/experimental section -> https://forum.unity3d.com/categories/betas-experimental-features.86/

It's rather funny how accurate this roadmap is considering 5.6 is now the end of the line for 5.* and next up is .. well 'whatever' 2017 yolo

What else do you know Hippo :p

well I guess decent fog and volumes(clouds?) would be good.. so long as it isn't like this...

    lol ty @ferlodeveloper https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/u...ation-tool-beta-3.430959/page-16#post-2945087

roadmap not showing much on a better terrain/shader system (with actual ffking built in way to put holes through it), improved sky time of day system etc etc..shader node editor..maybe unity like actually just hire some of these third party developers to push some more of the built in tools forward a bit faster.

They are hiring some of these third party developers, and have hired asset store 3rd party developers. Terrain is on the roadmap.
