Challenge - What is "your dream?" You have only 10 words.

@keezakoni threw that out in another thread. Which got me to wondering what dream I'm actually pursuing. I thought I knew what I was after, until I tried to put it into words. Then, distilling it to 10 words meant I had to cut through all the fluffy cruft. Then, I had to overcome my hesitance to share it with the community. Maybe I'll look selfish, arrogant, or even weak. And somehow, it's also uplifting to see it defined, so simply. One things for sure, this wasn't the thread I started out writing.

Question - What is "your dream"?

Answer - So good I'm pursued for teaching, designing, and building games.

Sometimes a game or a cinematic, isn't just entertainment. It's an escape, into something that you've provided for people to enjoy, use or abuse lol, What i'm trying to say is, not everyone plays or watches for the same reason. Some people depend on it to get by, or just to pass time. Either way, someone rely's on your content in some fashion. Some, prefer the virtual world, to the harsh real one we live in

Just remember, if you do something you're passionate about , love and that you're good at, the money will follow. Don't pursue an idea or a field of work, just for the money, do it because you love to do it

    10 words? That's simple:
"Being able to sustain myself pursuing my passion. Developing videogames."
That was the easy part. Now it's time to go back to work. :D

Original dream: Create mecha games, only need a part-time day job.

Soul-crushing truth due to time and energy thoroughly drained by by line-of-business dev day job and other life things taking any remaining spare time: I no longer have one.

Okay, that was over melodramatic, and possibly not entirely true, but I'm feeling rather maudlin at the moment >.>

Actually, thank you. The act of writing that all out, for people I have never met irl, has given me the perspective to banish the maudlin attitude and keep at it. I'd been feeling that way for months now. So again, thank you :)

To release my racing game soon, and it makes enough to sustain me to work on the next title, release that, then grow my little company to 5-10 people, and we finish all 4 games on my company roadmap within the next 5 years, and have good success, and lots of fun doing so :D

To die with no regrets & be remembered fondly.

theoretically if I at least try to achieve what I want & can stay happy while doing it it may not be quite as soppy as it sounds in 10 words.

Truthfully having set goal after goal my entire life and reaching the majority of them (the ones that really mattered) I've been just enjoying life the past few years and not setting any major goals. My ambition was to enjoy all that I had achieved and become. Kind of like the guy in Office Space who said I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I always thought it would be. :)

The past month though I have been noticing that very familiar feeling again. That desire to do something more once again. So I guess my days of relaxation and contentment may soon be over.

I tried that (early) for a year, then started learning this to keep my brain going. It was enjoyable doing nothing but the feeling of my brain leaking out my ears was unsettling.

When I was in college we did a similar exercise, we were supposed to send resumes to 5 companies that would cosnstitue our dream jobs. Knowing full well that at our level it was just an exercise and just to get familiar with the process. Mine were (in order) : Jim Henson company, Pixar, Disney, Lucas Arts and the Discovery Channel. So, 4 out of 5 ain't doing too shabby. ;)

So, since that is knocked of my dream list, my next dream would be :
"Work for LEGO as a master builder."
    ...still working on that.

Sadly, (for me at least), all the Lego games are done by Travellers Tales in the UK.

Though, we often prototype with real Lego, so in a small way, I do sometimes get paid to play, uh... work with Lego. In the end that is really all I want, to have someone pay me a good salary to play with Lego every day. Is that so much to ask?

We have a training session coming up that is apparently Lego based. I asked if I could take the Lego home afterwards for my *ahem* kids.

Unfortunately my 'kindergarten' days aren't that common. Apparently playing with Lego is only tangentially related to the business of not blowing things up.

Vote Trump 2016. Once he owns every territory on the earth, he'll stop the fighting to avoid damage to his property lol. That also frees up $730 billion currently being spent on the military.

He may want to deport everyone back to their homelands including himself (revoking the citizenship birthright would affect everyone except native americans), but once he owns the entire world it won't matter. Mexicans will live in New America. English people will live in Great America. Russians will live in Mother America, and so on.

The global currency becomes the US Dollar which puts an end to outsourcing and exploitation of foreign workers and Russia and Brazil pay the same price for videogames on steam :)

The world being a smoking pile of radioactive ash by 2017 is more likely, but eh, anything can happen. That thing on his head is his actual hair!
