    Welcome!
We are extremely excited to announce the 2D Experimental Preview! This is a publicly available early access version to try out all the new and experimental features being developed by the 2D Team.

The 2D Experimental Preview build and forum, is to provide our community a way to experience new and experimental 2D features that are in development and participate in the development through discussions and feedback. Community feedback is valuable to us as it will help us gauge the usefulness of a feature, and if we are headed in the right direction.

Why is it called Experimental Preview?
We are calling it the Experimental Preview because, instead of just releasing a preview of features in development, we want to include experiments or prototypes of ideas and want to make it clear that there are features that may never get developed into a full feature.

    Who can can get access?
One of the most exciting things is that this release is available to Everyone! A Pro license is NOT required.

What happened to the previous Alpha releases?
The previous Alpha releases had served the same purpose. The great response and community feedback has led to a few changes:
    • The Alphas were available only to Pro licensees and we wanted to make it available to everyone.
    • This forum. As we develop more features and there are more community members providing feedback we decided to create a better direct channel for discussions, responses, feedback and updates.
    • The valuable feedback helped us rethink and re-factor some of the features that we were working on. A great example of this is the Tile Map feature which was first available in the Alphas. It is now more robust and extensible.
So go ahead and download it, give it a go and tell us what you think. Help shape the future of the 2D features in Unity.

    Some very important details.
While using the 2D Experimental Preview build, please note:
    • Project backward compatibility between versions is NOT GUARANTEED. Always backup your project before upgrading.
    • Preview features here are not production ready, please DO NOT use this build for your final production.
    • Experimental features may be discontinued/dropped
