the site refresh lists both the Personal and Pro versions of Unity 5 as including the "Engine with all features". Both are also "Royalty-free".

Interestingly enough, the Asset Store Level 11 update is listed as 'free for Unity Pro' users, and $19/month for Personal users, coming soon.

Looks like at least one of the Asset Store updates will be large discounts/benefits. Based on that, and the other, extra services that Unity is including for free with the Pro version, it looks like that may be where they're placing their premium value.

Unreal's free announcement now mute. All Unity 5 engine features are now free.

Still, UE4 is better for me, because of proper level geometry editor in UE4, aka BSP brushes.

    //edit: Also still no profiler.

Unsure if this Personal and Pro versions of iOS and Android deployment have the same features (shadows, etc), with the only difference being the splash screen, but...I'm very curious.

So have I missed something? Is Unity Pro now free? Why does it say it's $75 a month?

Read the answer to the question "I pre-ordered Unity 5 Professional but I want to use Unity 5 Personal Edition, what are my options" in the FAQ

They have us covered, which I really appreciate, since a change of this type does require taking care of us loyal customers who don't require the services, just the engine features.

Oh that's good. I just got confused by this page.

I don't mean to be pedantic or anything but it's just kind of a strange use of the phrase "Engine with all features" right next to a list of all the features that aren't included?

But anyway, I probably don't need those extra features so I'm happy enough. :)

Very interesting and very positive, personal edition seems cool. So it seems Unity is now a rival to Unreal 3 graphically, which in a lot of ways isn't a bad thing. UE4 is just way too heavy, I'd gladly sacrifice some OMG GRFX to distribute to a wider user base.

The main thing that's still lacking has to be tools / post and shinier VFX, I'll have to download personal edition and see what's the crack.

A change in pricing. In fact, you still have to pay 4500 dollar per developer if you need android+iOS pro...

The issue about this is that everyone aims for a wider audience. While the core of 'indie' origins was always about focusing on niche audiences of niche markets. There's a very sad reason why ppl upload 500+ mobile games everyday now, and it's pretty much tied to this homogenic view of 'wider audience is the key'...
I personally gave up on that I began to focus on my niche, small loyal and focused audience which is much easier for me to deal with instead of trying to be everywhere just like everybody else. But that's just me.

Wait...so does the personal edition get the profiler? I'm seeing that "Game Performance Reporting" is still a pro feature.

Arghhh. There are still 2 tiers.

Nah, still doesn't have bsp for editing level's geometry so UE4 still better for me. And Probuilder's too expensive.

There's niche and then there's NICHE chief, our game looks fantastic in UE4 but at this rate the min specs are going to be a GTX980. All this fancy DFGI / DFAO / Sky lighting / TXAA / RTR etc. looks amazing but pounds a GPU and once you start stripping it all back and knocking down on scalability it's not really impressive anymore.

Our target release is a GTX 460, with UE4 it's never going to happen. If you want the best of the best then UE4 still without a doubt, if you want a game many can enjoy then Unity is still worth consideration.

I'm not exactly "friends" with Unity at the moment as well.

I believe that's something new, an upcoming service not an editor feature (definitely not profiler).

Impressive stuff all in all. Hopefully this means we can at last do without the endless stream of price comparison threads!

Well, guess I can uninstall UE4 now. It's been a fun 24 hours but we've grown apart. That and every time I click something it has to compile hundreds of shaders.

I hope someone sells a dark skin mod on the asset store then I will be very happy :)

We are still using Unity for the project we planned it for. The other project is in UE4. This a great day for me all around:) Thanks UE4 and thanks Unity. Both of you are awesome! :)

Unity 5 and its large platform support is by far the biggest winning issue for me over anything else. Now that Pro rendering features are available in the free addition I see Unity 5 as a having a way bigger advantage to mobile / small indie devs vs UE4.

Both are awesome tools and depending on the things you consider important is what matters. For me Unity 5 gives me more of what I consider important at the end of the day with platforms and editor performance.

I'm amazed people are still complaining. I think it says it all really. These people asked for pro features like render texture, gets all that and so much more for free, beyond their wildest dreams. Yet they still must complain?

Honestly I am happy with this move by unity tech.

Really am. Just wish that people were more grateful.

EDIT: Also - is it just me or am I the only one getting a 502 bad gateway with the license server?
