Unity Editor has stopped working on windows 10

Hi guys,

I have upgraded to windows 10, and i was installing the latest editor version 5.1.2f1 and when finished installed popup message " Unity Editor has stopped working" and i can't use Unity. i was working on windows 8.1 but i was using unity editor 5.0, and it was working fine, Any advice?

Just want to let you know mine is up and running, just had to re-activate my license. So far so good. If anything comes up I'll be back.

 

Are you using Lavasoft, if so, that is currently causing a crash so try using virus scanning software.

Additionally you can try again with a clean install of the newest version, seems to work for some.

no am not using Lavasoft, i have tried uninstalling and installing a clean to the latest build 5.1.2f1 and it is still crashing

I looked in C:\Users\Hisham Hosni\AppData\Local\Temp ,but i couldn't find the crash.dmp
i only found empty folder of unity.

 

Windows 10 is still very buggy. I tried upgrading to it yesterday and it wouldn't "take" my video drivers made for it from nVidia. I'm back on Linux. I suggest going back to Windows 8.1

 

Hmm... I have been running Windows 10 on my laptop (Fujitsu convertible tablet PC) for many months (thanks to Technical Preview) and now on the "official" version. Have had zero problems. I have Unity on it, too, but it's not very powerful so I'm only using it for mobile development of my old app (in fact, I installed legacy version 4.2 ... but I can say this: that version works fine)

 

I ran the tech preview a few times, and had mixed feelings about it. Some builds broke things, like the Start menu, some software wouldn't work.

Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. Hope you guys get your Unity working. I'll continue to wait for the Linux editor.

 

I have just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1/64bit and the Unity editor freezes when either resizing the window or selecting the camera (or any sub window pop up).

Started with 5.1.2f1, then upgraded to p2.

I have tried compatibility mode and switching between on-board Intel graphics and NVIDIA.
I have also tried changing display modes because this is a 4K display and enlarging sometimes causes problems within applications. Please note that equivalent display size was working on 8.1.

Running on MS GS60 Pro 4K, NVIDIA GTX 970 (DXDiag.txt attached).

Not sure if this helps, but I Googled NahimicMSIOSD.dll and found some related crashes due to this dll. Apparently Microsoft likes to change things and not tell developers everything they're doing at the core level, and it ends up breaking stuff. I'll link the pages from Firefox, GTA and Unreal.

I've been having problems with Unity crashing or running so slowly for the last month and never figured it was because of Nahimic.
First I was running Windows 8.1 and Unity 5.1 and then sometime last month I felt my project get corrupted and Unity would become unresponsive and the editor would have graphic problems and crash, and playing the project in editor went from +500 fps to 16.

First I thought it was my new nvidia drivers causing the graphic problems, or unity problem or my windows install getting corrupted.
So over the last day I did a clean install of Windows 10 with new drivers and was so disappointed when my project still become unresponsive again.

But after finding this thread I uninstalled the Nahimic drivers and Unity worked perfectly again.

Guessing this is more a Nahimic problem, I'll try and get in touch with them to let them know.

My issue is Solved thanks to Tautvydas Zilys Analyzing the dmp file. Although i could find any lava Software installed in my control panel but i founf the .dll files at those location:
C:\Windows\System32
C:\Windows\SysWOW64

and i could delete them so i had to use this software ( http://www.freefixer.com/download.html ) to help me get them deleted manually after 1 scan and NOW unity us running up!!

i use the Unity version is 5.1.2f1 (64-bit)

 

Looked at the crash dump. It's the Astrill VPN that is conflicting. We're investigating this, but no solution has been found yet. In the meantime either 32 bit builds should work, or disabling/uninstalling Astrill. (Basically there are 3rd party tools like Astrill that are injecting themselves into Unity because they see the browser framework, which changed in 5.1 to be based on chromium, and then cause the problem)

 

So, this crash dump is little more complex to understand. Maybe Tautvydas may have some better luck analyzing than I. I'm a little confused by some keyboard layout thing calls leading to a a problem. I'm wondering what 3rd party things are installed that may affecting the browser control (libcef) we are using since 5.1?

I happened to come across the "Unity has stopped working" error, when I upgraded from Win7 to Win10. I was using Unity 5.1.1f1 and it ran smoothly; after upgrade, it would crash when trying to initialize the welcome screen. I uninstalled, and re-installed (clean) again with the same version, didn't work. Re-installed (clean) once more with version 5.1.2f1 and it still wouldn't work, and then I saw this thread.
Initially, after uninstalling everything Lavasoft, it didn't work. There were two files that weren't succesfully removed with the uninstallation:

• System32/LavasoftTcpService64.dll
• System32/LavasoftTcpServiceOff.ini

I simply removed those two to completely remove everything Lavasoft and Unity started working, only with the Re-licensing step some of you have run into.

While you guys are kindly analyzing, I'll try to uninstall some suspicious softwares and see if the problem can be fixed. Do you think reinstalling the OS works?

BTW, if a 3rd party thing causes this, why doesn't it affect 5.0.x?

5.0 used Gecko browser engine (Firefox/Mozilla based). We switched to libcef which is Chromium for 5.1.

Unsure if re-installing OS will work - but _something_ seems to be interfering with libcef.

 

I just downloaded the CEF test client (win x64) of branch 2062 from https://cefbuilds.com/, after checking the libcef version in Editor.log, which is 3.2062.1930.0. Everything works fine with the test client. If there IS something that interferes libcef.dll, I suppose it should reproduce in the CEF client...It's so strange. Does this little experiment bring anything on your mind?

I'm still trying not to reinstall OS since there are so many things I would rather not to install or set up all over again...

 

Just a guess but I think maybe your modifications to some of the CEF dlls make them behave differently from the original CEF?
I just tried to copy the test app .exe to Unity/Editor folder, hoping it would run. Failed. Then I checked the md5 of common dlls from both sides, and some of them seems not the same..I'm sure you guys know better about this

After uninstalling a load of e-bank security web browser controls and nothing changes, I tried to uninstall the last option - Kaspersky. And B-A-M! No crash anymore!
Still not sure why Kaspersky causes this. Maybe I'll reinstall it another day and run some tests, it's 0:07 now in China anyway.

You have Lavasoft installed. As noted elsewhere, we're looking at this problem. However, in the meantime either uninstall or switch to the 32 bit client.

I had this same issue but managed to fix it. Lavasoft Web Companion was installed somehow, uninstalling that didn't fix it. Removing those dlls broke my internet. So I ended up modifying a fix I found somewhere else that uses FRST with a script.

I've been having the same issue . First, I tried to install Unity 5.1.x and I couldn't manage. Although installation completes successfully , cannot open Unity. I installed 5.0.x and it worked like a charm . But I need Unity 5.2.x in order to proceed with my work. I tried today to install it , and I get the same issue as the one with 5.1.x .
