Unity 4.5.1 crashes on different MAC computers

    Hi everybody!

    I am new to unity. Yesterday I tried to install unity 4.5.1 on my iMac 2013, then I tried to import some assets I had previously purchased in the asset store, into a new project I created. Unity crashes every time I try to do perform this action. I googled and found that one possible source for the error might be the scplugin. I removed the plugin, still the same behavior. I also removed mono that was previously installed on my mac, still the same behavior. So I though I will try to install on another computer and took my MacBook Air 2013, exactly the same happens there. I also tries my old iMac 2011, and a MacBook pro 2013, they all show exactly the same behavior. I copy and pasted one of the crash logs I get when I try to do the asset import:

    Is anyone here experienced enough to read something out of those crash logs?
    What comes to my sight is that the crash logs always contain a GetFaceForFontRef call.

    here is a small list of things I have tried:

    - removed the SCplugin
    - removed all other plugins from "Contextual Menu Items"
    - removed the mono framework that was previously installed on my MAC
    - installed an older version of Unity ( 4.5.0 )
    - Installed on 4 different MAC computers - OSX version is 10.9.2 on all. Same behaviour on each
    - I use SSD disks on all MACS in case this might cause problems.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    4.5.1 Works perfect on my Mac Mavericks 10.9.4 beta build.
    But on 10.10 YoseMite Beta 2 just crashes

    Someone found a solution for this?
    I also have a 2013 iMac OSX 10.8.5 , and today out of nowhere Unity started crashing whenever I try to import an asset package (free or paid) from the asset store. I reinstalled Unity, and tried it on several new projects aswell, with the same result.
    I am in the middle of a project - this is pretty frustrating.

    Sorry to sound like a stuck record, but post a bug report, and include the project if possible, then post the bug number here. We have a QA team who specialise at reading crash logs.

    Of course Ive sent the bug report first.
    But the automated answer was:
    "If we need further information about this issue, you'll be hearing from us. Otherwise keep an eye on the release notes in the next versions of Unity."
    Because I don't have the time to just wait and hope, I thought I'd ask here.

    I never got a real "bug number"…just a case number which is 618409
    (or 618409_t1e20lbrbir39gqt), if this is any help.
    Where can I find a bug number?
    I also reinstalled Unity 4.3, and importing assets works just fine there.
    But as our project already uses features of the newer release (4.5.1), this just for trouble shooting.

    618409 is the bug number. Is this a 4.5.0f6 or 4.5.1 problem? The bug report only seems to mention 4.5.0f6, so I am a little more confused than normal. Loading your project into Unity, and downloading and importing things from asset store works for me.

    The report was possibly still from version 4.5.0f6…but I installed the newest version, and the same problem occurs here.
    Also importing directly from the download folder crashes Unity.

    My current workaround is to import the packages in version 4.3 and open the project in 4.5.1 afterwards.

    One of our customers was crashing with the same callstack in Wasteland 2 and another app called Kerbal Space Program. See the thread at kerbalspaceprogram.com. I looked at the source code and it looks like Unity is enumerating all fonts in a function called ReadFontFiles. I think one of the fonts in his user fonts directory was causing the crash. I suggested he back up his user fonts directory and then clear it out (and replace with a user fonts directory from a known working user account if necessary). He says that worked for him and he's able to play both games now.

    Same problem here OSX 10.9.5 and Unity 4.5.5/4.5.5p3 - Reinstalling and completely removing existing projects does not help. Even new projects lead to a not responding exec.

    PS: Most frustrating is, that I only use/bought this mac to build for iOS. So I do nothing else with it.

    Just appending to this thread because I had the same issue. The problem can occur when selecting the preferences menu item or adding a UI Text element to a project. And it's because of the ReadFontFiles() call, and having certain "fancy" fonts installed on your system.

    To resolve, use FontBook to check your fonts for issues (eg. duplicates, etc) and remove the troublesome fonts.
