Unity 4.0 64-bits exist!

    That's actually Unity 3.5 64bit ;-)

    It's not ready for prime time yet and there is no scheduled release date.

    well.. Unity today has hundreds of amazing developers.. i guess they are all working on all the things we would like to see soon (now ;) in Unity 3D
    and the bigger the product/company, the more complex the beta testing and QA!

    keep on with the good works, and rollout features when really production ready!

    What I don't get is, if it is not ready to be used... why are they using it? surely they wouldn't use it if it was inferior?

    The fact that it runs on one computer in no way means that it will run on others the same way :)

    RAM is quite cheap nowadays, at least for PC and i guess for intel based macs.

    If you buy a modern desktop your probably running more then 4gb . The next desktop I build is going to have at least 8gb of ram .

    Would more ram help with asset re import times , thats a major annoyance for me right now ( I switch from android to web player alot and its like a 5, 7 minute delay in my work flow )

    64 bit won't help much there; it might help for a short while on some assets, but then it's back to being 5, 7, and in our case 1-2 hours on a high end machine to switch targets.
    We don't have a team license for cache server, so we ended up just having multiple auto-synched checkouts, one for each platform.

    What 64-bits would be really nice for would be for large scenes and assets.

    Gosh darn, 2 hours to switch targets !

    I guess a possible solution would be to allow backups in the previous targets file formats . Considering how big hard drives are now in days this could work .

    Pretty sure quite a lot of people out there have import times much longer than 2 hours; I wonder what the reimport all times of the butterfly project is.

    Yep, disk space is cheap. We keep around 3 to 4 copies of the same project around at work, the only difference is each copy targets a different platform. Switching platforms is just closing the current solution and opening another one.

    Hm, Is there a way to adjust the size of the cache server to deal with large projects like that?

    Altered mine some time ago, but am happy to update it again, to reflect the arrival of 64 bit Unity (when it's here!).

    Ohhhh, I always though these waiting for Unity 64 were a joke about Unity for the Nintendo 64.

    64 bit support is what i'm missing to push the button on getting a 64GB+ Workstation!
    Let the frenzied allocation begin.
    (note: if it's not ready for production, could we get some kind of beta for it? I'm already using unity 4 beta as my main so i don't mind going "even more beta").

    Sorry to bump this, but... I'm crashing beast all teh time due to unitys 32 bit architecture an I'm really pissed atm. Unity 5 is out but they removed beast and baking a really complex escene takes forever while with beast I can bake by parts without trouble till unity starts consuming so much ram that when its back from beast it crashes. I cant believe they had 64 bit stuff in 2014 and that it never made into unity 4.
