An update is coming to Smart Water 3D (http://www.smartwater3d.com or in the Asset Store: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/publisher/8761)

This update will bring "Crytek like" water for PRO, Basic and Mobile.

Here are the specs of this water.
    1. adds vertex animated water to all the existing shaders (+10), it is optional and can be set on/off even in game or in the editor
    2. the water animation adapts to the relief, for example the water will flatten around the shores and in the deep water will get bigger
    3. total control over the amplitude, direction, stepness. Actually I use an adapted Gerstner waves model from Unity Water Fx 4.
    4. Vertex animation is all on the GPU and so on Desktop and modern hardware is taking no time to execute.
    5. color of the water changes depending on the wave orientation and height.
    6. foam appear on the top of the waves when their amplitude reaches +0.5
Now here are the things that are changing in this update:
    1. updated sun control, more realistic and more flexible. huge improvement from what it was before.
    2. updated rendering and illumination. The balance of the global sun, specular and water color has been tuned.
    3. rewritten fresnel and refraction algorithm with more fidelity and realism
    4. improved sandbox.
    5. improved sandbox demo for the Full Bundle owners.
This water is by many aspect superior to most water available to date, this including other's game engine, like for example the adaptation to the relief and the flow map emulation that is giving an unique result, specially with the new wave system.

You can for example use only one big grid and have ocean, rivers etc... and the waves will adapt to the relief as you can see in the video, having small waves in the narrow rivers and big waves in the deep sea.

If you have a great artist in your team he will make miracle from these shaders!

Here is another video that shows the Opaque Shader... Shadows from the clouds on the water = it is possible.
