Nice game @Blacklight28...it reminds me of those weird dreams/nightmares when you're stuck in a neverending tunnel and someone is following you.Run for your lives!
Here's an idea...maybe you could make some areas where the walls are electrified...and touching them kills you :D

Since you were comparing to 50's and old cartoons I was inspired by some flintstones and I enjoy the rocks I must admit :)

Doing some work on a sword:
    80 poly's so far.
I'm trying to make this so that it will be a sword with a chainsaw.. anyone have suggestions on how to achieve that?

In 2012 I am shifting gears (again, lol) and focussing on a much simpler, much smaller game idea which is very `low tech` so that I don't get all distracted with trying to make `high tech` work. It's kind of a casino game with a fun theme. I also have a bit of money to throw into it so I'm thinking to buy some audio/music and maybe a couple of asset store tools to help get things moving faster. I plan to use my custom scalable vectorgraphics system which is up and running already, and then after some PC/Mac sales hopefully move it to mobile platforms. I can't see shelling out $500 up front to start on the mobile platforms and there's no point doing that if I can't make a full game in the first place, so I'm just keeping it simple.

marcos: Dude that sucks so much! I wish I could suck that much... ;)
(Just in case people get the wrong idea, the above statement is sarcasm)

    Ok lets get staarteddddd!
This won't be to hard to explain, I think ;P

First off here is your texture, I just tweaked and moved things to make it a tilable texture and gave it abit of color, very quick job ( Dont just use grey again!!! " I WILL kill you")

Now lets look at what you did and what I have tweaked.
you did = more time and less detail
I did = same uvw and same resolution space but higher texture details/res

Im sure that you can see how I went about it... but just incase here's a pic to explain:

The red is the top planes of the bridge and the yellow the side.
Each plane is mapped and overlayed onto a tilabe section. As you can see i've used the top bridge planes and mapped them over the top half ( the bricks ) of the texture in the side.

I made some darker bricks in the texture, this would be used under .etc.

Ohhhh and I halfed the resolution to 256x256. looks the same.

If i've left any thing out.. that would be bloody typical...

    Hope this helps.

    Micah

I closed the original thread. 299 pages!

Select the Word or Phrase that you want to link - like "Click Me" and then hit the "Link URL" button the looks like a planet and a chain. A window will pop up. Paste/Type the URL here. Then the word or phrase will be clickable. I'd you want to know the exact syntax, follow these steps and look at the codes. It is essentially (URL="MyUrl")My Phrase(/URL) where you use square brackets. IIRC on this forum software the quotes around the URL are required.

Yeh thats really great to see so much work put into 300 pages.

Heavy cavalry, templar horse. I had to redo whole horse from ground up becouse in first version i thought to make one 1k horse texture and separate 512 texture for saddle, but then i realised that more or less waste of texture space and most important it increases draw calls too much where saddle most of the time isnt even visible.

    Great work everyone.

Not much to show but I am working on the Photon multiplayer server for a simple game I've been wanting to do for a long time. Right now, I am getting the functions in place and using whatever assets I can get my hands on. I'm also working with Blender so I can create some custom art. Lots to learn and I'm loving the process.

I think that would look better if it had bigger rocks, right now it looks like a snow leopard print :D also it needs a kind of keystone in the middle(look at some arches and you will see what i mean) this makes it be able to not just fall apart wich would happen in its current state :)

@little angel, thanks helps me alot :D

Office survival - third person survival, taking place in a snowed in office. The main thing I have on it so far is it's entirely procedurally generated - I configure how big the rooms can be, what can be in them, and what rooms come off and such, the code does the rest. Walls are 2x wide chunks (Smallest room I can have is 3x2 , or 6meters wide, 4 meters long)
    Very WIP ectect.

Eventually I'll make a showcase of it.
$08208845.jpg Little office that turned out well.

$1.jpg Overhead of office - lit.

$Untitled-1.jpg Old project, using the code. Instead of an office, it was a giant space station. Same basic idea however.

You could get loads of hype :D and get advice from your consumers meaning it is the exact same as what they want.

We are a small portion of the consumers, and anyway, consumers often don't know what they want. Before The Sims came out, were people demanding a game like it?

That's my thoughts too. It's not like everyone was shouting on the internet for Physynth before I made it. I've just submitted the 2nd update which features what people do want from it though.

So I wonder how useful asking people what they want is? for example ask kids and they'll say oooh mw3 with wow mmo.* Or ask some old git and he'll tell you that scrabble would be really great if you could also turn the letters or something.

    * with zombies.

With that infomation you could make a game that combines those two elements to make "Modern Scrabble Craft Of The Dead" :D

But realy it is a good idear to ask people what they want, eg. i remember u said something about people asking for core midi or somthing, if people had told you that before the relese then it may have been easyer to add and atract more atention.:)

Also sometimes its the small things like a shadow that looks a tiny bit off and such but its nice to have it all perfect before launch.

This community is full of deveopers, gamers and musitionsi doubt onless you went to a forum directed to a consumer you would find people who could give you asmuch good advice as hear :D lots of people have experiance with relising apps and could give you there experiances with a similar product :)

Hey everybody, welcome to 2012... And this is my first post in this new thread... damage texturing... I have decided to see how far I can take the damage on the fighter, especially since I want to program the game to do shader swapping (don't know which is faster, texture swaps or shader swaps)... what do you guys think? Should I take it further...? I want him to look like he got worked on... I was thinking of returning to zbrush and modeling out the face changing, but I have no real access to switching out the meshes (no programming knowledge). Anyway, some nastiness... Enjoy

@hippocoder - People have already mentioned the advice and direction portions. A good example - I got bored and took a UV titanty posted and reskinned it. He's still using that asset and may include it in his game. It's also been cool to see his work develop. I've learned things from reading his creation forum. Another one that comes to mind is the Zombox blog (http://www.zombox.net/). I've learned a lot of cool things from that project.

I think for some another benefit is it can give people more incentive to continue working on their project. There are tons of unfinished projects and I believe that having some people interested in it can improve your enthusiasm to continue work on a project.

This is probably pretty moot for you though because you A) have a shipped product and B) are a F***ing genius. So of course there is that =)

I would say no, its not very useful, because as duke said, most consumers don't know what they want.

But I do think there is a lot of value in showing people something awesome that they didn't know they wanted, and getting them pumped for it's release (although that's not quite what the purpose of this thread is). The game industry revolves around previews, preorders and pre-release advertising.

As for this actual thread, most of us are hobbyists. It's human nature to want to show off your stuff when you hit a personal milestone or just want some constructive criticism :)
