Hello Unity peeps! I started attempting VFX in Unity using just the shuriken particle system. Other software used to make the visuals for the first video was Maya for the lightning(rendered), Max for the custom meshes, Photoshop for the rest and polish. Admittedly the lightning spell int his video is actually at one point in the sequence 9 draw calls.. I really wish the particle system would allow you to set up a bunch of custom meshes to choose at random, would have saved 5 draw calls. The reason it's so many drawcalls is because I made a lot of the textures to be used across other spells and effects. Watch in HD if you can, it's still a bit blurry but I have a slow internet connection, would have taken years to upload anything else. Also environment isnt mine, just used to show how it works in an environment (better to make effects like that than with a black background) I've actually done a whole bunch of harvesting and crafting effects already but no one wants to see that. Crits and feedback welcome!
The last one looks real nice, possibly due somewhat to the darker environment, and maybe a little too rainbow-y for my taste but it looks nice overall with the sequence ramping in, peaking with nice fading out effects. What would be really awesome is if the spell effected (wind blast or turbulence) the surrounding environment. Blast the grass and leaves and dust out from the center of the effect. That would be cool! But I know that isn't the subject of your thread.
Thanks. ^^ I would love to have it affect the environment but I'm limiting myself to basic shuriken particle system. I even went from having the effect play on the ground to having it mid-air to make sure it could be used anywhere. ^^ I have a long list to get through.. All of the items with a + at the front means I have done it. All of the ones with "I II III" next to them means there will be three tiers to the spell (the harvesting have a failed effect, normal and High quality while the spells will go up in strength and epic-ness). Big project but I'm also hoping to do these in Unreal too.
