    Hey everyone!

I'd like to start working on my new game, but I want a name! Why do I want a name? Because I need to get a website. This time I'm going to be smart and talk about the game from the very beginning.

The game is a "Party Based First Person RPG" with real time adventuring and turn-based fighting. Concept based on the Might & Magic 6-8 games. [which are still my favorite of all time]

So I want the title to feel similar.

    I'm thinking....

    • "Force & Fury"
    • "Power & Prophecy"
    • "Strength & Sacrifice"
    • "Strength & Sorcery"
    • "Warriors & Wizards"

Obviously I'm stuck on the alliteration of it all :) Also I'm a fan of the flow, so the same syllables and emPHAsis is something I'm going for.

But, what do you think? Any thoughts on this?

    THANKS

Does it have a theme or a motif or something other than being a generic fantasy RPG?

Generic really -- you're a party of people -- lots of races/classes etc, all chosen by the player -- that goes out from your small town on a quest and ends up saving the world or something.

The world has a couple strong kings / kingdoms, some mystical/magical presences, lots of towns with people who need help, dungeons, mazes, etc.

"Warriors & Wizards" is a far too close to the classic game "Wizards & Warriors." Best to scratch that off the list.

But to make sure you don't upset the left & right wing gamers you better have it centre justified.

Is your game a serious rpg or is it fun, irreverent? The name should help convey some of that.

(In)human - not sure if this exists, seems vaguely familiar but can't find anything
    Tight & Tragic
    Orc & Ogre
    Meak & Mean
Spell & Smell (the scratch & sniff RPG/word game)

    Ha!

It's a serious one. I'm sure I'll attempt to write some humor in there, but it'll be serious.

Can't you just turn it around, change it a little, and make it "The Magical and the Mighty" ...?

For further (yet still thematic) differentiation add a subtitle, like "The Magical and the Mighty: In the Land of X-Lax!"

I don't want to run into any actual copyright or trademark things. If it's too close, I'm sure that'd be an issue. I just want it to 'feel' the same.

Probably "Anything & Anything" will seem similar. Just look at all the suggestions you've been given already. ;)

    Swords & Spells

    Iron & Incantations

    Clans & Casters

    Claymores & Conjurors

Before this conversation get's further down the rabit hole of non-sense (btw @Ony , did you know the nerdy body gaurd's only other famous role was Darth Vader?), I would like to thow out that I've always like simple names over complicated ones for RPG's.

*Shudders* You have given me the push I needed to buy the domain for my project today ;)

I didn't plan on having the domain, but you can never be too careful. It took me a couple of days to think of the title for my project and now I'm keen on it I can't relinquish it.

    What is the name?
I'm also thinking "I need to buy the domain", but just because I don't want to have to move the site from place to place and all that.

@Not_Sure Haha, I own the .com for Spells and Sabre now. My player holds spells in the left hand and a sword in the right (hence why Spells is on the left and Sabre, the right in the title). Not planning on using the .com, I was going to just use mycompanysite.com/spellsandsabre.

That's okay, if I ever get around to making a first person RPG I've got a brillant mechanic that will make it stand out and playable on all devices.

This is actually a REALLY bad way to check.

Searching Google or even punching the domain name in the address bar leaves you exposed to squatters. All the search engines and most ISP's mine that data and sells it.

What you need to do is use a registar that is legit.

    I think whois.net is legit.

But godaddy squats for sure and should be avoided like the plague they are.

I meant owning the domain, having your game listed under it's name.com is good for people doing google searches.

    Can we ask why not?

I kind of know exactly what I want so I don't need input, and sharing would only put my idea out there to others to do themselves.

It's not like I'm worried about money, I just kinda want to keep it my own thing.

Wait -- but you said your idea is a way to make an RPG cross platform? So, if you put it out there, it's not like we're stealing your story or your game or your mechanics (obviously you and I and everyone else are stealing from the games we all love playing).

Why not help everyone out? In the end, I'm willing to bet that you've been helped by others in the community who spent time detailing how and why they're doing things...maybe you can help others in the same way?

Obviously you don't have to. It's just helpful if you do. Plus, what if someone here has a way to make your idea even better? You'd benefit from that.
