    Released!!

    https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/22462

    Hi Forum

    NEW SCREENS ADDED DOWN PAGE
    PROMO VIDEO ADDED DOWN PAGE

This scene is from our own personal project but now we have a question.

This environment has slowly become our best work to date but we want to know if you the unity
users would like an environment like this and how much should it cost?

If we release this city on the asset store we will not use it in our project and make it exclusive to the asset store,
All effects / shaders / vegetation and wild life will also be included within the asset
This asset will include our PBS system which uses the exact same maps as unity 5
and contains all maps ready for the unity 5 release.

Don't just Vote help the Environment expand by giving ideas on this thread and we will even pick the
best idea and they will get this asset for free.

    Realistic Lighting Set-ups

Physically based Shading in unity 4

    Perfect For All Camera Styles

    Unity 5 Ready Texture Maps
    (Reduced Size For Sample)

Looks really nice, however.. how big/modular is it? hard to judge from the few screens... dunno its worth...

Good questions i should have mentioned that.

As this city will be taken out of our project to be put on the asset store the city is still very much a work in progress
as we only use one day a week for working on our project and the rest of the week creating assets.
If we get enough interest in releasing it to the asset store then we will give this asset more time for working on to get it released

Upon completion the city will be roughly the same size as a singe region form assassins creed

This asset is extremely modular giving the ability to create a huge amount of buildings.
we will also pre batch a selection on buildings for ready made drag and drop buildings
this will also reduce CPU overhead giving better performance

I think it's a great idea to re-purpose anything you can when developing games.

If you really want to help out the indie community I'd suggest breaking down the environment into smaller items to sell individually on the asset store.
This could possibly take additional time and effort depending on how the environment is put together but would be the best option for indie teams that don't have bank to purchase a large environment, but have modest money to purchase a lamp pole or building, modular pieces, shader set etc..
You've detailed some of the areas this could be modularized already, effects, shaders, vegetation, wild life, your own developed PBS system, Unity 5 high def textures.

Let me know when I can pick up the prize. ;)

We could release individual props but there is one thing holding us back and that is texture atlas

Basically Most of the models share the same texture
For example in the screens you can see (2 different barrels/ wood Planks on the floor/ the small table / the building overhang support / the lamp and hanging lanterns/ the canopy and canopy rail/ the shop sign)

All of the mentioned props uses the same texture maps and material so releasing an individual prop could be a lot of work

Also say if someone was to slowly build up the asset in full overtime,
this person would have very high draw calls and a huge drop in performance compare to a person that brought the
    whole environment.

it was a good idea though

First of all, it looks great. Releasing it on the Asset Store is a great idea, but that doesn't mean you can't use it in your game.

Like James said, it's hard to tell how much it's worth without seeing the quantity of the assets. Also do the buildings have interiors? I would assume not?

I think clearly what needs to be added to this environment is a herd of evil ninja lizards.

Not sure about the evil ninja lizards lol

We are working on interiors as we speak :)

This may seam silly to some people but there one main reasons we wont have this in our game if
we release it to the asset store,
We try not to use any assets in our game even our own That way we can keep the whole game under one look/art style

we have also decided not to release any of our assets to UE4 Because we make enough money not to and this
makes Unity the only game engine people can get our assets on because if it wasn't for the unity community we wouldn't be where we are today
So Basically our customers come first if that makes any sense lol

Hmm, one of the best things I've seen come out of Unity so well done.. If it's a modular city get it put together and get it out there I think others at the same quality are normally shifting around the $80.00 mark for the lot. Check out your competition, one 4K springs to mind who does modular asset packs.

It'll give you a good idea at how many meshes etc. and what prices you might want to charge.

    Thanks for the complement

Michaels work is great but we do think that when it comes to price we like to keep it as low as possible
we have released around 20 assets already but this is the first time we have gone to this much detail
but then again we dint have PBS before that :)

i have to agree with ShadowK here definitely one of the best things iv seen made in unity
would say add buildings like black smiths and stables they would go well
i would pay around $75-80 if its big enough

Tell me if you feel that way when you're at the end of 300 meshes, that have to be performant and you've uv wrapped / textured them all and then mass built demos :)..

Also don't restrict markets, your customers probably use both ;)..

New update on its way within the next few hours

The stable and black smith is a good idea il get them added in.

Yer but once you have done it thousands of time it becomes second nature and workflow speeds up
its true that some of our costumers use both engines but cant really be bothered with the conversion lol
we are contracted to iClone Content store so those conversions take long enough .

    Thanks.
The forest asset was combined with anouther asset we released ( APOCALYPTIC FRANCE: DUO)
and will not be released separately no more

How about a town square, with some market stands, a gallows, and maybe a statue or something?

We use Blender for Block outs Then we import in to 3DCoat for UV mapping and Texturing and baking occlusion Some models we Voxel Sculp in 3Dcoat

Then we use Gimp For Creating normal maps and enhancing the ambient occlusion.

Really like this! Right up my alley!

Now need more Victorian london like stuff, with brick tenements and make dock yard, and it could be buisness!

Also, any chance on a video tutorial series on how to make Modular assets, maybe even on how to make them fit with your assets? :D
