I'm just getting into Playmaker and I don't see a way to set the text of a Unity UI Text component. I see the Set GUI Text action, but that doesn't work with a new style Text component. Is there an add-on somewhere for the new Unity UI or some other way of doing it?

EDIT: Nevermind. I found the scripts here. However, I do have a question regarding this sort of thing. This is the second time today I've found a modified script or a custom script for something that should already be a part of the core Playmaker. Do these sorts of changes/additions ever make it into the product or is this more a community of modders sharing fixes and enhancements?

Hi, they do eventually make it into the core product, but right now we're still supporting Unity 4.3 so it made sense to support newer features as addons. After the next update we're going to raise the min supported Unity version to 4.5 or 4.6, then we'll look at integrating those addons.

It's worth noting that core unity features are generally official addons, made and supported by Hutong Games. The community also makes a lot of custom actions and add-ons :)

If you haven't tried it yet you should check out the Ecosystem browser. It's still in beta, but it's going to become the primary delivery platform for new actions, templates, samples etc. in the future.

The goal is to create a seamless workflow where you can pull actions, templates, examples etc. into your project as and when you need them: https://hutonggames.fogbugz.com/default.asp?W1181

Thanks for the reply, Alex. It's good to hear they will be core features at some point. I've actually had Playmaker for a while, but am just now getting into it and using it so I'm really unfamiliar with the community and the road map for the product. I'll take a look at the Ecosystem browser when I have more time. Thanks again.

This has to be the number one question you're getting atm but ... Is there any rough indication on release time for Playmaker 1.8?

    Soon!

One of the main problems has been a "bug" in Unity 5.x.
Unity 5.x changed importing unitypackages to silently make a copy of files with different guids. This could break the project without the user really understanding why or how to fix it. Since Playmaker users have files from a lot of different sources (updates, forums, ecosystem...) this was likely to effect a large number of people. So I was waiting for Unity to fix the importer. It's taken a little longer than I anticipated, but Unity 5.3 will fix the issue. That version should be released Dec 8th.

Since that is still a couple of months away, I'm considering releasing an update that includes a 1.8 beta unitypackage, kind of a public beta. That way we can include some warnings about potential issues... If we go this route we will try to get it into the asset store this month.

@Alex Chouls - Sounds great, as an asset store publisher I know the importance of getting a release right the first time :) hope it all goes well.
    Thanks heaps for Playmaker!

Alex Chouls, question. I want to do the following thing in playmaker. Please tell me if its possible.

I want that the texture/material of the player, fades to a other texture/material depending on its health var. I have a normal 1 healthy texture and a 5 sick stages texture. Each time my player got damage the texture health should switch to sick stage 1 texture. After the second hit, its sick stage 2 texture. Is that possible? Or do you know a way to make it?!

    Hi,

This is typically something that requires a custom shader to allow several textures to be blended together.

    http://wiki.unity3d.com/index.php?title=Blend_2_Textures

the shader linked above would do the job for two textures, and you would control the blending using the action "setMaterialFloat".

you could get away with it as is that when the blend reaches 1, you switch textures to the next set and set the blend back to 0 to carry on showing more damage. Or you could edit the shader to expose more than 2 textures.

there are some experimentation and pseudo codes spreaded around:

    http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/931122/how-can-i-blend-a-lot-of-textures-on-one-mesh.html

Once you find the right shader, blending will be easy within PlayMaker.

Let me know how it goes. I'll give a go at shader code if you can't get it to work and provide a working sample.

    Bye,

    Jean

Hi, I asked Jean to answer your question above (he does a lot of the Playmaker support on the forums). Does it make sense? It's probably worth starting a topic on the Playmaker forum for this, you'll be able to go back and forth and other Playmaker users will also be able to help...

Unlike Is Visible, this action ignores shadows, making it very useful!
