    Again, there's an edit post option and a quote+ option. Use it rather than posting three times. Or just stop posting until you have something substantial to show. People are reading the posts; they're also tired of the same old excuses.

    It's a pointless argument, for what reason are people still reading this thread. I will still post big improvements to this project. But I'm going to make a new thread once a substantial part of the game is made or I decide to distribute the project.

    This is not true. Once these arguments keep on going sooner or later a moderator will close this thread because it's pointless anyways and probably tell him to open a new and fresh one. Saw this happening before where things started to get really intense.

    People are still reading because people are still posting. Do you want people to see your game? Then post. Do you not want them to see this? Then don't post. Follow the rules of the forum.

    Personally, I think this needs to be closed; start a new thread once you actually have something to show and can take criticism without bashing other people's work.

    Eric, your project looks great but don't listen to the mean comments you have in the pages 1-2. Usually those mean people spend so much time inside unity and not even think about the social world and then ending up as a jerk. Its all about "Hiding behind the monitor", people believe they can say what ever the hell they want because no ones gonna find out who it is anyways. I know a lot of users that are mean people and I can give a whole list of them, but you must remember this and its very important "Someones opinion of you does not have to become your reality". People can say all they want about you but that won't change you. Most people won't even bother to read this or even read the whole thing because they don't give a dam. I'm not meaning the entire community is a mean community but there are some people within the community that are just a bunch of jerks (This does not apply to all of the users in the forum). And guys please you need to LISTEN, people always want feedback and suggestions, thats all they ask but most of you don't care and say what ever you want. Just please give actual feedback and suggestions the way the user expects. Thats all they ask and thats what you should do, it doesn't matter if its just screenshots of new flowers and trees at least its a new screenshot and all he asks is feedback. Now please, if you didn't read the whole thing. READ it again jeez.

    Anyways it looks great eric. good job, i hope to see this project continue. :)

    What exactly have you finished?

    I see a lot of screenshots of similar looking stuff... same trees, same grass, same stretched textures.

    Everything could use some work. Performance should be better than what youre getting. More does not equal better. Work on some smaller maps, get a terrain shader that doesnt stretch. Theres a free one on here somewhere. I thinks its called a tri-planer shader.

    Use some tricks like same texture, different tile size to paint your terrain. Use less grass, its obviously killing performance and looks at best average. Get some different foliage/trees/etc.

    tbh, stop working on making the map looks good. Work on some of the gameplay.

    The performance is a comfortable 60-70 fps in almost all locations except for ones where I purposely make it graphic intensive as it is a benchmark scene. Other places it's a good 100 fps. I plan on replacing the terrain shader with the relief terrain pack as soon as I get the money for it.

    Thanks Frostbite23 for those kind words, it is truly amazing to hear such mature language and speech coming from such a young developer and human being. I do also have to agree that in the recent years a large surge of Internet trolls have been surfacing. I have also been working on the project through these months, the Ai is A LOT less dumb. Though could use some more work. Perhaps it's almost time for another showcasing of the Ai. One of the reasons I don't upload ideas is due to the fact that my imac is getting old and I've begun to notice a little slow down, and I fear that rendering lots of videos could shorten the already fading life time of the almost 4 year old machine. I'm just a little older than you Frostbite23 (I'm in high school, around the age of fuzzy) so I don't think that my parents will be very happy to know that my extremely expensive piece of overpriced apple was melted by video rendering, and subsequently would result in getting an awful PC that nowhere matches up to my shiny I mac.

    Eric, the scene should be running 100x better. I used my old 2008 iMac as a test machine, I could run things that look much better at better FPS. Go in Unity, enable stats and screenshot it.

    You don't have shadows, many textures are low res and all around looks poor. I'm interested on how it's running, so please screenshot the stats.

    I would expect that sort of fps on a crappy 3-4 year old machine.

    60-70fps should only be comfortable on a game that's doing nearly everything. Full AI, NPCs, character movement/animation/bullets/explosions... A near complete game. And not just one-two units... im talking dozens.

    You dont need to pay for a triplaner shader... here's one that's free...

    I'm pretty sure that Unity 4 got the triplanar projection to work, as I have already tried that and I do not see a difference.
    6gbs means 6 gigabytes, which is 6144 megabytes, which is 6291456 kilobytes, which is 6442450944 bytes.

    I've gotten almost the same performance with the player and guns/bullets/animation/explosion. Along with shadows, and around 30 ai units. One big performance issue is the water as each tile has 14 draw calls or so, I have like over 100 for the wave effect.

    Here is the screenshot. Many textures are 2048 and some are 4096 or 1024. The heightmap res is 2049. There are 3 cameras, 2 forward rendering, and one vertex. I've made new maps that look better and with better performance. Take a look at my twitter. I post more of the game's progress there. Google it if you don't know the link.

    ummm... 4096? thats stupid.

    they should be 16/32/64/128 at most.

    The lower res textures look really bad overall. I'll lower them to 1024 and 512

    I'm experimenting with realism, one if the methods is to use good high res textures, because indie effects bloom and effects are too performance costly right now, especially with the island scene.

    I have them they have a distance of like 10 so you can't see them unless you are close to the object.
    Light mapping isn't an option since it removes the normal mapping.

    512 and 4k textures don't make a difference. You won't see a difference on prop models. It's a waste of memory. I use 512 in environments usually max.

    Sorry mate this doesn't look very good. Still no shadows, terrain is far to specular, trees are all rotated the same angle and performance is horrible.

    The performance with out the hdr is around 100fps, I could rotate the trees more and add some realtime shadows.

    I second Khelton's post. Terrible performance. Nothing is in the scene. Why are you working on graphics so much? You don't have a game here. You have a terrain. Get with the facts, dude.

    I'm planning on making the UI when 4.6 comes out with the new tools, so a story demo will have to wait. Sorry. FPS is mainly done, if you want I could try to upload a ai demo when I have time. Also about 2.5 pages of this thread has been devoted to people yelling at me for expressing my discontent at a liable post made by johnnydj. BTW I made everything in Unity. There's a reason this is in WIP.

    Well, show off videos of the AI. Show off videos of you playing the game(shooting enemies and stuff). Not terrain constantly.

    I found a bug, it seems like the flowers move with the water or something, here are some screenshots


    As you can see the flowers are not in the same position as they were before, I would assume you would have noticed this issue since you have been posting about your terrain for a while now.

    I've also noticed that; I think its a issue with the wind zone, or some billboard shader. I'm trying to find/make a fix. Thanks for reporting!

    Man, I worked on graphics til I got bored, and I did it for 5 years. Follow my rule of thumb and you will succeed. :)

    I got cars and helicopters to work so, that will be in the build if there's one. I'm upgrading the Ai system to attack the player smartly.
