Sounds great, but it raises one question. Is this Windows only? It says '.Net' after all and not 'mono'. I really hope that's not the case.
Be extremely careful about taking slides out of context. Also, ".NET Upgraded" is not what that slide says.
What's the full context of this slide? Does this mean that we'll have feature compliance with a more recent version of .NET? Because that alone would make me just as happy as a Mono update.
I didn't go to that talk so I'm not sure exactly - someone should ask the person who posted the photo. I will note that if Unity 5.0 included an update to C# 5 / .NET 4.5 across the board, I'm pretty sure that would have been in the keynote.
The slide is taken out of context; it is my slide ;-) This slide came from the section of "Issues that IL2CPP will help us solve". The upgrade has not happened yet, and it will not happen until IL2CPP is mature and used on all required platforms.
I would be happier if they managed to make Net 3.5 work correctly on all platforms. Better to know what you can truly use, than to use a new version of a language with the incognita of what will work on a given platform and what not
It looks like this is from the "IL2CPP: The next generation of scripting in Unity" session? Is that correct? I'll make a note to watch the video when it's posted.
if u watch the unite 2014 keynote u will see that il2cpp is going to be the future... and it looks like quite exciting future!
