Manor Construction Kit interiors and exteriors - 2.15 with: attic, more exterior elements and more interior stairs!

Hi, my first product is on the Asset Store, tell me if you like it :D

This is a manor construction kit, consisting of hundreds prefabs (rooms, halls, gallery, corridors, stairs, cellars, exteriors), textures (color, normal, cookie) and related materials (wood, marble, stucco, doors, window glass, bricks, stones, roof, wallpapers and parquets) and two sample scene.

You can use this to create many configurations of interiors, suitable for use in any number of genres, including RPG, FPS, survival horror games or other types that require an elegant mansion with dungeon cellar.

    Textures 2048x2048 normal and diffuse
Corridors: 44 elements and 88 premade blocks.
Rooms: 40 elements and 98 premade blocks.
Hall: 31 elements and 135 premade blocks.
cellar: 10 elements and 44 premade blocks
exteror: 40 elements and 45 premade blocks
5 kind of door with a script to interact with them with F key
All screenshots were taken with Unity (free), so things can look even better if you have Unity Pro!

This looks interesting. Are there outside-facing textures on the walls and windows as well, or are these made for interior scenes only?

Looks nice but the screen shots are pretty dark. Any idea about poly counts and textures? Wondering what the draw call counts would be as I'd like to use this on mobile.

Interior only. I'm considering about make exterior part but not sure yet.

Some polycount example are in asset gallery. About drawcall and and brightness I'll make new pics with less mood and more light.

Wallpaper are simple tileable material. wood and wallpaper are separated material so you can modify one without alterate the other. You can modify it with click and drag how any element in unity (or change the texture in the material texture pannel).
    http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Manual/Materials.html

Instead parquet texture have orientation and so floor have a script to rotate uv.

I bought this yesterday, and I have some questions.

First, do you plan to go back and fix the few items that are out of alignment? I've noticed 2 things:

    1) Some pieces are set lower than others. If you're manually positioning things, this isn't a problem because you can snap-to-vertex on the whole piece. But I was planning on procedurally generating maps.

    2) Some pieces don't line up perfectly. If I line up the floor, the wall has a little gap, for example. The one I noticed this on was a hallway piece next to the bridge/door hallway piece, I think. I can overlap the pieces just slightly (very, very slightly) and make it go away, but that seems wrong.

Also, I was wondering if you'd add some pieces to it? I'd like some stairs that are suitable for a side-view platformer. The current stairs all assume the player is playing first-person. I was considering making a side-view game for fun (and maybe profit) and it would be helpful to have stairs that don't wrap around corners or do U-turns. (If I missed them, I apologize. I'm not at home and I'm just going from what I saw last night, and I may not have fully explored the pieces.)

So far, I really love the pieces! They look and feel awesome. It's a tremendous amount of content for the price, IMO.

The items are planned to use the floor vertex to snap in the right place. If this not work, can you tell me the names of the pairs of prefab that not align each other? I'll work to fix today if know where search.

About stairs: in hall - balcony - stairs - balcony_stairs_A - perhaps can be useful for you. Otherwise I can add another stair variation.

This is 'hall/hall_wall' on the left and 'hall/balcony/Balcony_bridge_door' on the right. You can see the alignment glitch on the left side, all the way up the wallpaper. I lined them up using the floors. I didn't check any other ones to see how they line up. These were just the first ones I tried.

I looked at the stairs you mentioned and they look great. I'm not sure how I missed them.

    Thanks!

If you try to use bright background you'll notice same issue also with two simple square plane snapped each other.

There is a simple way to fix this.
    Click on your camera:
    http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Components/class-Camera.html
    and set Background to black.

Alright. I was under the impression that perfect alignment would fix that, but that fix is good enough.

Thanks for the explanation and fix.

I changed the camera background color to black, and this line still shows pretty clearly.

I created a whole hall room of different pieces, and so far, this is the only line like this. I've put them all together with vertex snapping using the floor.

Are these pieces 'hall/hall_wall' and 'hall/balcony/Balcony_bridge_door' again or are different? Is anti-aliasing active?

What are the near and far plane values of your camera? Does the black line go away if you make the near value larger and/or the far value smaller?

After checking all that, I deleted those pieces and re-added them from prefabs, and the line went away. I'm guessing I must have accidentally moved the wall just slightly.

Sorry to have taken your time on this non-issue! Both of you!

Edit: I've removed the images because it wasn't an issue with your work and I don't want anyone seeing it and getting confused.

Can you give me some stats so I can figure out if it works on mobile?
    Can I change texture/material/shaders with Allegorithmic's?

    Thank you.

In the image gallery in asset store you can see how many polygons form some prefabs, and here:
    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/141662-Manor-Construction-Kit?p=969897&viewfull=1#post969897
    there is some stats.

Every prefab have material separate in order to allow easy changes:

    Example:

    This have:
ceiling tileable material (one draw call)
wall paper tileable material (one draw call)
wood tileable material (one draw call)
marble floor oriented material (one draw call)

Every square tileable texture can be use without problem on tileable material.

All prefab have one draw call for material, so you can figure out how many draw call have every prefab simply counting how many material you see.

So you can easy change ceiling, wallpaper and wood with Allegorithmic, maybe uv marble floor can give some prolem, but you can take parquet floor (it have simple tileble uv) from room prefab (it have two version with different floor just to give and easy tileable solution) set and snap it in place of marble floor and save it like a new prefab.

Kind of hard to see from that small preview, but it looks nice.

Are the patterns in the door part of the mesh, or part of the texture?

Hm, it's actually easier to see on my Mac at work, than my home Windows computer. I suspect I have my monitor set too dark.

A normal map is great. Thanks!

Just bought this asset and I must say, very nice job!! Well worth the money :D

Just one question/request, are you planning to add outer walls too in the future? So one can easily add it to an outside terrain and have both inside and outside of the manor?

Awesome! Looking forward to it :)

Been playing around with it and got some more requests, feel free to ignore them, but would be awesome to have them :)

Double doors on bottom, up and bottom/up hall pieces, including balconies.
Circular rooms with stairs to go, think towers! ;)
Diagonal walls, which would make us able to add rooms at a diagonal angle

A great inspiration for more interesting rooms is Updown Court in Surrey, England

Keep up the great work :D

Likely not this, certainly not soon.

45° corners will be made after exterior and not soon. I must complete an another asset for top view game first.

Just a suggestion. Have you tried out Allegorithmics substances? I'm using their free pack which include a very nice wallpaper substance that can be customized to tons of different looks!

They also have brick wall, roof tiles and other neat stuff for the exterior. I've been using your interior walls, removing the ceilings and using brick wall substance to create an exterior for a mansion I'm building, and it works wonders :D

And another request, if I may :p
Hall wall with fireplace. Maybe a bit bigger than the ordinary room ones?

I not have tried Allegorithmics substances but your ideas look very nice; can you post one screenshot of your work?

I'm put "bigger fireplace hall" in the to-do list.

    Awesome!

Here's a screenshot of the front entrance of the mansion I'm building:

And a view from the garden in the back:

The mansion is based on a real mansion, Whitemarsh Hall

Looking at my images, I remembered two more pieces missing from the hall wall types:
A hall outward corner and a hall inward corner 1x. The ones you see in my screenies are made by myself by using existing walls and combining stuff :)

    Love the exterior pieces :D

But of course I have some suggestions/requests to add, feel free to ignore them since I have solved them otherwise, but might be a cool addition to the kit ;)

    Exterior balcony pieces:
I have made my own out of the balcony pieces in your kit, removed walls, wood etc and moved the floor to be part of the balcony instead.
However, the balcony pieces have the woodwork protruding underneath that shows through the ceiling on the floor underneath the balcony...
Would love to see pieces like these without the woodwork underneath :)
Pics to show what I mean and to show a corner piece and normal piece I made:

This would make the kit able to make stuff like this:

If you decide to add pieces like this to your kit, you probably need to make a 1x piece for the balcony too, kinda like this one only without the pillar:

As you see, I've also used your stairs to make an entrance with a more Victorian style, although it would probably look better with walkways vs stairs. I might do something about that with another kit :)

And while I have your attention, there's an error with your Balcony_Stairs_A, the mesh of the right side railing and end pillars are inside out. Here's a pic, but might be a bit hard to see what I mean:

Again, thank you for a most amazing kit! I really love to play around with it :D
