b.t.w. anyone has good UV unwrapping tips? Perferably a free tool or not to expensive.
I want todo a decent texture job on these.

    Its for an iOS game.

its doesnt look really complicated so i think blender (completely free) will be enough, however if you will create more complicated models in future then, maybe, you should consider another tool. btw your modelling tool havent any feature related to uv unwrapping included basic features? (i cant recognise which tool u have only from one pic so i asked for it)

in addition blender have 3d texturing but definitely poor in actual shape (but it will be improve in next or two dot versions), sculptris (limited version of zbrush with sculpting and texturing), for 2d texturing - gimp, krita both free

non-standard (in workflow) for 2d/3d texturing - substance painter indie version has affordable price (99$ in unity asset store), quixel suite free until september (because of betatesting) but require photoshop however it has Megascan which is really beautiful.

    i hope i was helpful ;)

Hey, thanks! I *cough* hate * cough* blender.

So, this is Hexagon you are looking at (v2.5) it comes with UV mapping, i even tried Unlimited Unwrap 3D but the problem im running into is that it unwraps every individual face. Everything is welded tho?
I thought maybe its because its a cheap tool. Like, Hexagon comes with Planar, Cubic, Cyl, etc.. projection, HOWEVER can only be applied to the model? So not to * selected * faces.

Or if only i could select faces, and unwrap thos as a set. But like i mentioned, most times i get loose faces, rather than a wrap :/

So anyone else has an idea about Unwrapping this?! Like i said, i get all faces unwrapped, but its not grouped. So far i have not really found any good solution?

I know you don't like blender, but trust me, it's almost the most complete 3D software, it has a lot of unwrap types, it even has an integrated realtime paint mode. Blender can look confusing at first, but is because everything is done through a keyboard shortcut. Look, in Blender you can do a simple unwrap, and then export the uv layout as any image format you want, then in Photoshop/GIMP or whatever you use, you can edit the texture, and you are done!

I perfectly understood you mean to say " trust" no need to change anything, except for randomperson42's way of thinking.

I know, sorry, I was making a joke. No offense intended. I'm aware that it was just a typo.

Blender is ok for being free but I definitely prefer Maya over Blender only reason I don't use it is because of the taxing $3,300 annual fee lol.

I remember when i started modelling, my first tool was 3ds max, it was somehow easy to learn and very efficient, but when the trial ran out, and they asked me 4k USD, then i turned into blender. The first time I looked at the interface i almost hated that program, but after a lot of reading and practicing it was not that bad, it's an excellent software. It's just a matter of practicing, I will never regret learning blender.

But, you can try this tool, it's free!

Hey, thanks for this link! That software is simply brilliant! Why isnt this in Ultimate Unwrap3D and 3D modelling tools? What is different here is you could do different projects for each axis, and split it, so have 6 planer projections for a cube, etc... this is just perfect! Thank you!

You have Silo2 that is a pleasure to use for pure hard surface modeling ,it can do UVmapping also. You should try it.

I don't know what you're doing, but you should at least read the docs first if something doesn't work the way you expect.

Some tools like Unwrap3D unwraps models according to how the model is joined.
So, if something unwraps into single faces, it means your model is not welded.

Weld your model first before unwrapping it.

It is welded. That the point.. Even tried to weld it with other tools.

Well, you haven't told us what you're doing or how you're doing it.
There is more than just one tool or one way to do things.

Tools that use UV projection (planar,spherical,etc...) obviously don't need a welded model. Vertices are simply projected.

Other tools that unwrap or unfold, may unwrap models according to how vertices are joined.

But, if you only care about UV projections, then any old tool would do.
