    Hi folks,

I'm Andreas, 49, from Germany and dev of 'Eve of Destruction' (EoD)- a Vietnam War firstperson shooter.

EoD has been a free modification for Battlefield 1942 since 2002 and was updated till 2013 in regular intervals.
In 2013 I decided to make EoD a stand-alone game with Unity.
The engine is really awesome and the asset store has some fantastic models.

I've worked on the game for more than 3600 hours/1 year 3 months now and have finished 25 levels.
65 handweapons, 140 vehicles like boats, cars, trucks, helicopters and aircraft.

Of course it will have multiplayer and (perhaps in a later version) AI !

Because I've cancelled my old boring job after 30 years and spend all the time for the new game, it will be a commercial game.
I must earn some cents to feed the kids :D

Atm. it's all created with Unity Free but the plan is to change to Unity Pro in near future, so it will look much better in the final release.

You may take a look at the game at www.eod-game.com and download a WIP demo for Windows PC.

The game is not yet finished but at maybe 85-90%.

Don't hesitate to subscribe for a newsletter on my website.

Certainly looks fantastic. Jungle warfare should make for some intense shoot outs.

Looks great, downloading the demo now. :)

Edit: I have some feedback. I played the demo for a little while. And the biggest concern is definitely performance. I have a pretty high end gaming rig and the FPS right at the start was 25.

    Some suggestions for optimization:

    1. Lower the tree billboard distance as well as grass details.

    2. Get an LOD system implemented(I actually have a system on the asset store)

    3. I noticed you have the famous dragon model sitting in a little courtyard. This model has as many polygons as an entire game world, I would suggest removing it immediately. :D

    Nice you like it.

Yes I know about the performance issue. But it's an very very early WIP.
A LOD system - yes. Occlusion culling - yes. And much more has to be done.
The plan is to get Unity Pro before releasing the game.

I'll take a look at your LOD system now :)

one of the best battle 1942 mods, that and forgotten hope (would be nice if that one too was redone in unity)

    very nice!

    Here's another update.
These helicopters and jets are AI-controlled.
