    Hi everyone,

    http://creator.monstersvsaliens.com

We were given the task of "re-inventing" the Monster Generator for Dreamworks without the paper doll parts that are so common. They wanted a living breathing creature at the end of the experience that could move and animate.

Our answer was a 3D experience in Dr. Cockroach's circular lab where rotate through various "stations" mixing and matching monster ingredients to personalize a creature of your own.

Due to the tight deadline, we've got a rather heavy version of the game up right now. Be patient on the download. The team has a version with asset streaming working, and we expect that to go up soon with the international language versions.

    Thanks,
    Matthew Scott

That's really really well done. Only thing is, I had an issue with something hanging down in front of the camera and obscuring the view, as you can see below. Any time the camera moved, this always happened.

    Hi Eric,

Thanks for the heads up. We saw this on the iPhone port of the game. It's related to non-power of two textures and the use of DrawLabel vs DrawTexture.

I'll get the team to roll out a quick fix.

    Thanks,
    Matt

FYI, I'm seeing the same issue that Eric is. I'm using FireFox with OSX 10.4.11 on an iMac Core Duo 1.83 GHz.

Do you know what version of the Unity plugin you're using? We were told by the dev team that this may be a Unity 2.5 plugin issue.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Yep, AFAIK both Eric5h5 and bigkahuna have the 2.5 web player installed...

That might be the case. How do I tell what webplayer version is installed?

Unless you've manually installed the 2.1 web player after installing the last 2.5 beta then you're using 2.5.

FYI, you can always do a manual check if necessary. For example:

    HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Unity Web Player.plugin

Find that file and do a cmd-I to get its info. Follow a similar process on Windows and you can get the player version there as well.

    @MatthewScott: nice work! :D

    hi there

first of all that is real kick ass stuff

congrats on a fine tuned piece of software

    and the question??

    how did you do it?

i am so confused on the art pipeline

how do i export mesh ,rig and animation data so that it works in the game??

basically i want the user to be able to customize the character...different hairstyles, tails, dresses like tops pants shorts skirts etc

i know the mesh will need to be split up into segments so that all of them fit each other??

but what about the rig ?? it needs to encapsulate and influence all these different topology meshes???

    arghghgh

    i am so lost

    and what about the animations??

how would i plug that into the skeleton??
    please help please

a sample max/maya file would be a real killer

    thanks in advance

    Nice work!

@ahloyan check out the tutorials, and ask specific questions in the support section. Asking such questions here is going off-topic, and isn't respectful to the original poster, especially in showcase.

People will be happy to answer you in the support forum. ;-)

Congrats! One thing I noticed was that hitting Fullscreen from right click menu didn't work. Screen goes black but then returns to normal. Whereas fullscreen from game GUI does work.

Look forward to seeing how your iPhone port turns out.

I tried to play the game, but when I download the Unity Web Player or, it just keeps saying that I need to download it. What is wrong with it? If I downloaded unity web player, then why isn't it letting me create a monster?

I have a problem similar to Kjd6987's. For the past two days, I've been trying so hard to use monster creator. But no matter how much I download, I still can't use it. I'm a mega Monsters vs Aliens Fanatic, I need to play this. Please, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me get onto it.
