    Hey, I made a top down sci-fi giant bug shooter called Derelict for a school project not too long ago!

    I've been watching your stuff in the Small Projects threads, and I'm intrigued. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this.

    First I will introduce the bug

    The bug has been through several redesigns



    currently there are 3 types of bugs in the game

    Looks great. It reminds me a lot of Space Hulk and this video. Should be fun, lol.

    We are hoping to excel with our gameplay as well as campaign story. Plus our visuals are pushing the limits of what can be seen on the iPad. Hopefully with newer technology being released, such as the ipad 4, we will be able to have even more aliens, soldiers and blood on the screen!

    we have several guns available for the soldier
    Shotgun
    Rifle
    Pistol
    Flamethrower
    Turret





    Our focus is tonnes of aliens, and super powerful weapons

    This looks promising, I really like the artwork and the concept. The "Derelict" looks awesome, character models look great, and those bugs are sick! If only I had an iPad :/ Any thoughts on releasing for the PC?

    We will have a build really soon with doors that get destroyed as well as turrets

    currently what you see in the level is like a sandbox, the bugs spawn and auto attack the soldiers who auto attack back since they are facing the direction of the bugs
    the game is about exploring the large levels of the ship, the bugs will attack and be killed if the soldiers are prepared, standing still and aiming down the corridors. If they are walking and ambushed or facing the wrong way they will die after one or two encounters

    the soldiers place turrets to protect areas where a soldier cannot stay, so they wont get left behind

    Its similar to Left4Dead with the safehouses being the objective of the player

    We currently do not have unity pro, we will be getting it to use the awesome nav mesh features! but we are making sure we have everything that can be done, done before we get pro.

    this is why theres no pathfinding, the bugs and soldiers walk and shoot through walls.

    This is the art style I love. I wish I knew how to make my models look this way.
    keep it up. Unfortunately I don't have an Ipad, but would love to keep up to date with this game :)

    The flamethrower effect and bug concept are crazy awesome! I wanted to check out your youtube videos but they seem to be down. Do you have a website/blog that has more content? You should stick that on your sig. I couldn't find anything about it in the thread.

    sorry everyone we had slight technical issues

    youtube will be up soon as well as my signature will be updated

    thanks for the interest! eventually it will be for mac, pc, and android

    however we are doing a visual overhaul for the computer version

    but first things first, iPad

    The level has been beaten! almost.... the flamethrower guy keeps dying

    nows about the time for playtesting, and tweaking the game. but its pretty solid as is

    theres a few more features to add before the level is complete, but after that we will be working on making many more levels

    Here are some new levels, hope you all like them

    we are working hard, progress is slow, lots of playtesting going on
    we will have the gameplay down soon and then work on making the levels in the game

    as game mechanics go,
    the soldiers shoot through each other
    the aliens attack based on proximity not during an animation
    these need to change

    we are now building levels within the editor, going to have them playable tomorrow

    next step is working on complex Ai for the bugs

    One suggestion I have is to try and ensure the soldiers move smoothly and with "intent." The latest XCom does a good job of this while the new Space Hulk does not. XCom did well in reviews, Space Hulk did not. You may want to look at them both to get a good idea of what kind of movement players like.

    Everything is now running buttery smooth at over 60 frames on the iPad 2.

    It would be difficult to share how its running, but i may get the program x-mirage or something and share how its playing.

    heres a list of whats currently done (recently)
    cameras now pan on iPad
    doors lock and are broken by bugs willing to attack it
    found the culprit using 80% of the cpu (it was a few mesh colliders that weren't being used)
    minor tweaking of guns, movement speed, general gameplay fixes

    thats about it for now

    Like the text texture, but it seems a bit too... bleh. Not the game or anything, just the text. Maybe run through it with a really hard brush and just erase bits of the letters to make it look like rusted, jaggered metal if you know what I mean?
