    I got no idea what to call the levelling up achievements
    Survivor is time
    Annihilator will be for destroying asteroids
    Exterminator will be for bosses
    Collector will be for power ups
    I need something along those lines for levelling up

    ooh they both work quite well
    Enlightened is sort of a knowledge alternative

    Havnt decided on a name yet
    It's gonna have 8 totems on it and it will fight by firing lasers from them

    I'm currently working on animations, physics and some background handling code so not much to show
    3
    spawning at 50k, 100k, 200k
    There will also be a secret boss

    I'm stuck
    I need some kind of subtle hint so that people can work out you defeat it by attacking the totems whilst they're charging or energised, any ideas?

    Very true. I don't want people getting stuck on the first boss though. I don't want it to be obvious, they need to work it out, but i need some kind of guidance
    Do you (honestly please) think people will try shooting the totems whilst they're charging when trying to work out how to damage it?

    I generally would shoot everything, if you want to help them make it obvious that hitting them when they are charging does deal damage. Or you could have some sort of thing you find (broken wreckage + a captains log, ect.) that tells you how to defeat them.

    I just made a sale on my Asset...
    I know this isn't related to Cosmos, but that was a tool i created for Cosmos
    It just feels weird, I've made actual money with my game dev hobby, yes its £2.50, but it's something
    do i count as a real developer now?

    I like the music, and the boss fight looks pretty awesome!

    Just curious what song/songs inspired the music?

    The challenge level seems pretty good.

    The music that inspired me was mainly Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, I'll link some main contributors

    I really like this project. i always been a big fan of arcades games since i played on my atari Lynx as kid. I always
    buy this type of games on my mobile.

    I give you some feedback based on what you showed so far (and its great)

    Pros:
    - Great asset design
    - Great parical effects and skill
    - Good overal feel and control (at leas that i can see)
    - Good sound and music. (it matches well)

    Cons:
    The menu could need some twiking. Even the font you use is great when it's used large, it's not so clear to read when it becomes small. You can use a another font when you have smaller text. Like the on GUI buttons, then you
    don't neet scale them that big. Also think about color contrast, black on gray is not so good contrast.

    Any ways just my quick respond, really cool game, hope you post more and tell us when its done so i can buy it :)

    Hi @Ironmax, thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you're liking it
    Yeah you have a very valid point about the font and the GUI in general. I was actually planning a series of HUD changes in the near future. I could, as you suggested, use a second font for stuff that aren't buttons eg. instructions. Could you let me know which part or screenshot struck you as black on grey so I can take a look at it?

    That looks pretty cool, the colors seem a bit off though, maybe making the fire blue?

    So i played around with it for a bit, trying both changing the tube to orange colours, and the fire to blue colours
    I personally ended up liking what i originally had more, just the mix of a cool coloured tube with a burning hot orange flying through worked for me

    BIG NEWS

    The boss Oculus Impetus is finally done!

    Due to its difficulty and length, its been bumped to the second boss (triggered at 100k)

    I've uploaded dev builds including the boss so you can all try it out and tell me what you think :)

    Please ignore:
    Music not reverting, havnt done that yet
    The HUD: I'm making a new HUD so it's all a catastrophic mess atm

    Since I've uploaded dev builds you have access to all the dev cheats

    Hotkeys:
    1 - spawn one up
    2 - spawn triple shot
    3 - spawn shield
    q - add 10k score
    left ctrl - fill energy gauge
    r - spawn asteroid
    t - dark asteroid
    y - ghost asteroid
    u - fire asteroid

    It's been a long project getting this boss done, all the way from design drawings with my friends to a finished project

    Okay guys so I've decided im gonna try putting the game on steam greenlight as a concept
    heres what ive got for the description


    Cosmos is a modernised reincarnation of the arcade shooter classics; how long can you survive the oncoming asteroid barrage?


    You've been stranded in space with nothing but your ship and it's cannon. You have one task - you must survive. Annihilate everything in your way, exterminate all those that challenge you - you must conquer the cosmos!
