change background color for MonoDevelop

How can I change the background color and text of monodevelop? The background is pure white, and I would like to change it to grey so it does not fry my eyes

Go into Tools > Options, and in the Text Editor section go into Syntax Highlighting. The schemes you pick there change both text/highlight colors and background colors. There are some default ones and you can also make your own.

The tools section in my Mono Develop doesn't have an options tab. How do I access it otherwise

 

You can now change your theme with:

(mac)

MonoDevelop-Unity > Preferences ... > Text Editor > Syntax Highlighting

Then choose your color theme and click OK
