AtVoxel (Voxel Terrain System)

    We are pleased to announce AtVoxel terrain system. This terrain system for Unity will allow developers to have a voxel terrain for their games and also allows for massive worlds as its developed to be used for the creation of MMO games as well with a LOD paging system so the terrain is bigger than any available systems currently for Unity. With the realistic terrain you will be able to dig holes into it and create caves or cliff hangovers as well as build on it with voxels, in real time. The system can be linked to a network and is already incorporated into our Atavism Networks solution for multiplayer games or can be used for just single player games.

    It is currently in closed alpha stage and is being used by some developers who has bought our Atavism Network system for testing. We are also using it for Neos Land, our own MMO game we are developing and already have done testing with players in it with our closed Alpha test runs we are doing. Unlike many other Voxel systems currently available to developers in Unity asset store, AtVoxel is build for games as our main focus is rendering and frame rate and you can view the terrain very far with a really good frame rate.

    Here is some features available already:

    - Claim system: you can set permissions for who can dig or edit terrain in a area.
    - Digging: you can dig anywhere on the terrain where you have permission.
    - Building: you can build with voxels where you have permission. The voxel size is also extremely small so you can do very detailed designs and its linked to resources so when building it will subtract from resources you have if you set it up that way.
    - Brushes: we have different shapes of brushes to choose from like block, sphere, cylinder and more to come. We also have a easy free brush system which allows you to scale any side of a brush so you can make custom sized brushes as well.
    - Undo: we have a undo system allowing you to Undo up to 15 changes.
    - Restore: the restore tool will restore the terrain to its default look from where you have build.
    - Paint: the paint tool allows you to pain textures on areas.
    - Smoothing tool : to smooth the voxels.
    - Biom Creation: you can create different bioms so for instance have one area a desert and another a forest. All this is set in editor and you can add different tress and so forth to be procedurally generated. Once its generates just like the terrain it stays the same unless you change the settings.
    - Object Placement: you can place objects/props down in real time and they are stored on the client or a database if you have Atavism Network Solution.

    New Features Planed:
    - Liquids: a voxel water system to create oceans and rivers. These will be voxel based so if you dig a hole next to where there is water it will run into your whole.
    - Seeding system: this will allow you to load up different terrain said to get generated, good for single player games like minecraft type games.
    - Hieghtmap integration: Currently the terrain is procedurally created by noise filters but we will be adding the capabilities to create terrain by means of heightmaps.

    We are releasing the closed Alpha AtVoxel this Saturday as we need to release a update to the server as well as there is changes server side that works with the AtVoxel. That is for those using Atavism with AtVoxel.

    just a heads up from another publisher - you may run into problems here. Unity's terms don't allow assets to be sold outside of the store for a lower price (they must be the same price as on the store or higher). It's usually worth it for the greatly increased exposure though.

    Hmm interesting, thanks for the heads up I did not know that, we will then just eat the 30% loss and sell it at the same price.

    As for Beta, i am not sure when it will be out of Beta as it will depend on how many bugs there is and think the price will stay the same as in Beta.

    i think this voxel will become one of the best cuz the ceo is also a gamer him self :) guyz it worth the try :D even with the little options i have now i can allready make incredible buildings my twitch is a proof

    I am a developer and am currently using AtVoxel with Atavism. AtVoxel is well worth the money. It is a very powerful system with tons of options. In my opinion it is going to be the #1 seller when it come to Voxel systems.
    If your interested in a Voxel system with a great MMO Server, Atavism/Atvoxel is the Bomb.

    Hi Cookimage,

    is the source available as part of the purchase package, or are we reliant on yourself for customising the engine to our game needs?

    Also, how are physics handled, does it use unity physics?

    There is some source and core stuff is closed similar to all the other Voxel systems that's currently available on the asset store, when you sy physics are you talking for the MMO networking setup or single player game as those are two different things.

    Does it mean AtVoxel is not compatible with standart terrain / Terrain Composer but that it will be after heightmap integration ?

    Not sure yet using terrain composer with AtVoxel yet, will have to test it. But we are now working on implementing height map system so you will be able to bring in height maps from World Machine for instance.There is a good chance though that it will work with Terrain Composer as the hieghtmap system will be the same as what Unity uses for instance .

    This has some source code same as what Voxel land has which allows you to make changes to it.

    That's on Atavism website? if you enter all the details and press the enter button on your keyboard instead of the button on form it will register you. Its a bug we need to fix still.

    Is this still a thing? Is it still being worked on and is up to date? It sounds good, just need to know if it's a waste of money now or if it's still an active projekt

    AtVoxel has not been worked on for a while now as we are to busy with other projects but our aim is to get working on it again in the next few months. It is still usable at this stage, depends what you want to do with it.
