    Hi there,

    I've been working on this game for a couple of months now, and I thought of starting a work in progress for my game
    to keep myself motivated and potentially get some feedback on the game.

    Ascend is set in the near future where cybernetics implants are just a stop away from the nearby beauty clinic.
    Everyone is constantly connected, corporations are in power, people have everything once found only in books, and no one
    is happy. Ascend is basically a pretty cookie cutter cyberpunk work, hopefully with a twist of artistic take.

    The player will be able to equip three different type of armors and a few type of guns, but for the initial version,
    due to my own lack of experience and I doubt I get it all done in time with quality, the initial selection will be rather limited,
    in terms of armory. In the first version, player will play as the Medium class, with access to Assault Rifle, a revolver and a jump pack.

    More is planned for the future.









    The core concept of the game revolves mainly around

    1. movement
    2. melee
    3. mechs!


    I steal the game mechanics that
    I like from many FPS games I've played, but I based it heavily on Blacklight, Mirror's Edge, and Battlefield.
    Right now I am focusing on just getting the movement mechanics right.

    I used UFPS by VisionPunk
    for the core movement and camera handling, which is an amazing package for the price.

    On top of that, I have modded and extended UFPS to include double jump, wallrunning, walljump, ground sliding and climbing. So far, from those who had tested the game, they had a blast running around being a cybernetic ninja with guns.
    Here's a video of the gameplay so far.




    Currently, I am learning NGUI as fast as I can and I am making the Menu first, as it is still using the default
    that shipped with an asset I bought. I am also working with an amazing group of concept artist who are helping to flesh out
    the world and player characters more. After this is done, I will be focusing on completing the first map's level design, before proceeding to environment assets and making pretty characters.

    Looks great my favorite part of the video was the wall run! That is a great feature to add. I use UFPS by VisionPunk as well it truly is a great deal and is a great starting core. I will keep an eye on your development can't wait to see more!

    I love the parkour aspect of the game, I always try to trickjump in FPSes :D

    Not really. The game is Tribes, with the added name Ascend. Tribes is the franchise for them, while here the franchise would be Ascend.

    Same here! That's what inspired me to make this game, doing all those trick shots in FPS

    Like primus88 said, I am not too concerned about that. I am quite sure I could deliver a different gameplay experience as well.

    Yes, the similarity is definitely there. Imagine my shock and awe when I am making this and saw the announcement for Titanfall!
    In a way, that means I am heading towards the right idea! The mechs are more like exosuits, so yeah will try to differentiate from Titanfall.

    Can you please add a web player? Also in the video what is that at the 00:10 second mark, It looked like the hl2 arms and revolver.

    It's using the Ultimate FPS Camera, by VisionPunk, on the asset store.

    The webplayer demo unfortunately will be quite some time. There's still so many things that needs to be designed, implemented and test. Do check back from time to time, I do plan to put a playable demo as soon as possible. Cheers

    Thats awesome. The parkour aspects look very clean and prove for some smooth fast paced gameplay. How are you going to do melee? Seems like players are going to be running into each other a lot.

    Thanks! The parkour so far is still a bit buggy, especially the wallrun and walljump, but it will be worked on. The melee part that is planned for now
    involves mostly swordfight, and mostly exist as design. I plan to work on this once the parkour aspect and mechs are in.

    Gameplay update video.

    What's changed in this version:
    - Main Menu
    - Networked Player
    - A playable Team Deathmatch
    - Animation Syncing

    What's next

    Reworking the parkour system. Most of the code has been rewritten and should be more stable. Wallrunning is being rewritten, as it was causing
    a lot of issues. The next version will showcase the wallrunning.

    Hey congrats guys, this project looks great so far. I'm excited about this.

    But I must admit that I find it really strange that you have both Parkour and Aim Down Sight in the same gameplay formula. It sounds like ''fast-paced FPS'', but you need to crouch to aim properly and shoot, you know? It sounds very contradictory to me. Maybe, your game would actually benefit more of a formula closer to Halo where you can only go in ADS for specific weapons with scopes.

    And nice character. Thumbs up to Tito.

    The gameplay will definitely be fast paced, and though it won't be Call of Duty ish, the shooting will be more about positioning hence the parkour. It is still very early in the game, but yeah appreciate your feedback, will look into hopefully addressing this.

    Yeah, I started working on this six months before Titanfall's announcement.......guess this is just how the industry works.

    Just make sure it's different enough from Titanfall and... more fun to play. The gunplay of Titanfall is sort of lame (CoD).

    That will be hard as Titanfall is a pretty solid game. I do agree they could have worked a bit more on the gunplay.

    Yup, I used UFPS as the base and FPS Kit 2.0 for the network part, though it's heavily modify and will be replaced with UFPS multiplayer addon.

    Haven't been updating this thread as much as I want, but for those of you haven't followed the progress of this game, well I hope I can steal your support! :D

    Here's what we have been working on lately, the first player character the
    Medium Soldier


    and here's a turntable video


    And the latest update, showcasing the weapon concepts








    On the gameplay side, we have released acParkour, our parkour add-on to UFPS, and we are currently finalizing the weapon core system itself. In the next update, we hope to have a build where you can test out the guns :D
