    We have been very hard at work here at Apex Game Tools and finally it is here Apex Steer, We have just submitted our package to the Unity Asset Store and are now waiting for approval.

    Apex Steer is built on a technique known as steering behaviours combined with vector fields, the same technology is used in games such as Starcraft 2 and Supreme Commander, which are known to have some of the best local avoidance ever developed for games.

    Can this work without Apex path? For instance, using another pathfinding solution, but using Apex Steer alongside it?

    Apex Steer requires Apex Path, but Apex Path is also, by far, the best pathfinding solution available on Unity, and is well worth the price of admission.

    Exciting times! It's a steep price to pay but for somewhat perfect pathfinding it's probably more than worth the investment. I've been using Apex Path for a while now and it's almost perfect without Steer. Can't wait to grab this so I can finally have a complete package.

    Does Apex Steer provide the type of movement you could obtain with a custom PID controller?

    ie. The behavior you would expect out a missile. It has to turn around before it can face it's target, creating an arc with it's flight path.

    A bit unrelated, if it does, how many entities can it handle with reasonable performance when they don;t need to avoid each other or worry about collisions with each other? 100, 500, 1000? I have many steering needs, and am trying to get a feeling for what this plugin can provide.

    Apex Steer is a package focused mainly on group movement of units.
    What you request is something you could achieve with Apex Path alone, although you would have to write your own steering component.

    Gotcha, thanks for the reply. I'll still be using Unity Steer for moving groups of units, however I was curious about other capabilities.
