Announcing - Gloria Victis, low fantasy MMORPG

    Hello guys

    These are the main features of the Gloria Victis game:

    -the world of Middle Ages, in which magic is not a common tool but rather serves as elite force – its concept is based on the real world rites and beliefs of those times,
    -a dedicated non-target system featuring virtual replicas of weapons in close combat, projectile and mounted fight, an unrestricted character development and progress (no classes or professions limiting player’s choice),
    -a mature story focused on serious themes, complex, non-linear quests, enabling the player to change the story as well as the attitude of Non Player Characters,
    -dedicated mini-games as optional (and highly profitable) ways of solving puzzles available in the game (another option is to try and solve the puzzle automatically, using player character’s skill),
    -10 different crafting systems, providing players with items to use in the internal economy of the game,Unity 3D engine responsible for rendering graphics using shaders version 2.0 as well as 3.0.

    The team

    The Black Eye team consists of over twenty professionals – coders, designers, graphic artists, as well as sound and production specialists. Creating and sharing free, high-quality games, packed with ingenious plots and industry-standard assets has been our goal since 2008. In order to meet this goal we incessantly train our skills to complete ambitious projects using bleeding-edge technology.

    Wow! I have been following Ether Fields for a while now, but it's been REALLY hard because of the language boundary. You may remember me because I offered to run your game on a spare server I have at our data center for SAGA. I once downloaded the client and finally got in, only to be slaughtered every five seconds, so I never touched it again. I must say that it was an extreme disappointment.

    But anyway, I had no idea it was made in Unity, and I even could have sworn that I read you made your own engine for this! I am hoping the in-town PK issues are either fixed, or rare in the final game because this was a jewel I was so looking forward to.

    EDIT: After doing some research I found that you actually switched your engine, so that is just great! Welcome to Unity.

    That is looking great and defintely looking forward to it. It seems to have that Gothic/Risen feel to it which I love.

    How did you solve lack of streaming in Unity? You wrote your own terrain engine?

    Just know how to use unity:) I spent long time to optymalize it. Something abaut 2 months (I'm level designer). But still ther is some problems with engine.For exemple ram use ;/ we still fighting with this. Any slove ?.

    Indeed you can write streaming solution for Unity based on Unity terrain, but without custom terrain engine it will be never perfect (lagless).

    You mean out of memory leaks? No solution, every big project has problems with this. Unity attitude is "send us your project or bug (leak) is ignored". We dont like this attitude, so we switched platform.

    2 Nights with water4 unity pro = good texture and some standard options. If someone told that memory streaming in unity is unable . I tell you we have it now;) Of course we need to write more options and make it more funcionaly. We created it in 2 weeks:). The conclusion is: big projects on unity are posible and ther is no problem with memory - on client game.

    Hm so you are saying that you guys made this great looking water by using custom texture, made your own texture streaming system and produced this really great looking scenes....bravo.

    Hello!
    We would like to present you a few changes that took place over past month. These may well be the last news before quickly incoming the pre-alpha tests.
    On the website: http://gloriavictisgame.com/alpha another contest has started - the prize you can win are alpha keys.
    Additionally we have created a new sub-site http://gloriavictisgame.com/media.php . There you will always be able to find new screenshots, wallpapers, images and videos from the game.

    As far the game itself is concerned, following changes have been made:
    - fabric and hair are now animated when the character is in movement
    - two new creatures have been added: corpse and corpse eater
    - some shaders have also been fixed so that the world looks even better than before
    - some elements of flora, such as grass, have been added or replaced; unfortunately you can’t yet see those on the newest screenshots
    - GUI has been completed
    - main menu has a new background

    It’s also worth to mention the improved and advanced system that allows us to add sounds and visual effects to chosen animation frames.
    Before we launch pre-alpha tests, we only need to test and further develop:
    - server system
    - data base editor
    - character creation screen

    Fantastic project i think that projects like these will "delete" the impression that most users of unity have with "MMO´s games".... I wish you good luck with the project!

    I guess they didn't get the memo that this was Ether Fields, and they renamed the game when they switched to Unity :) It's looking great as always Jog.

    We have brought to you some news about development of Gloria Victis. Recently our actions gathered momentum to present Gloria Victis at kickstarter.com. Details will come shortly. We will be glad if you will support our project.
    So far, we have managed to:

    - Re-factor main game scripts which resulted in 10-times boost in performance and huge decrease of CPU usage.
    - Add sprinting and sneaking player modes
    - Refresh player animations
    - Refresh Undead animations
    - Add weapon-smudge effect during combat
    - Begin creation of next area occupied by Ether people
    - Add new monster: boar with set of animations
    - Add camera effects as zoom-in, zoom-out, camera-shock, which enhance player's actions realism
    - Create new set of game icons (about 100 icons related to equipment and food)
    - Publish on Gloria Victis youtube channel first soundtrack list from the game.

    what backend server are you using? photon?, smartfox?, ulink,? electrotank,?
