You have to convert paint fx > polygons but it is not a good solution. Use paint fx to create a map and after, use this map on planes.

    Hi,

First of all: nice work! Really enjoying this thread ;-)

Can you elaborate more regarding the backup and restore through EasyRoads as I can't see to replace the splatmap. Of course I copied my splatmap over the backup but when I restore the script is asking to merge and I have to choose another image. Regardless of what I'm doing the splatmap I created with WorldMachine isn't applied. Do I miss something?

No merge option when I restore the splatmap, but maybe I use an older version of EasyRoad?

I used the latest available version of EasyRoad (2.4.3) and Unity 3.5.
I tested further and applied the splatmap I generated as one texture slot within the terrain painting tool (setting the repeat values to the size of the splatmap and the terrain) which seems to work except for some rotation beeing applied on the splatmap which doesn't line up with the terrain. Will investigate further so see how I can fix this.

Hi Wim, In case you are still on this, the EasyRoads3D texture merge options refers to the road shape. It will blend the road shape texture with the original splatmap on a specific texture layer. It is not really intended to merge full splatmaps.

    Great work Botumys!

    Hi Raoul,

Thanks for the update. Did notice this wasn't working and switched to the 'normal' approach using the free AVS 2 shaders.

Hi, now that magical fx 2 is done, I have the time to continue FW 2 :)
Today I added new rocks, trees and bushes. I started the Big city wall, I have the global shape, now the next part of the job is to add details and textures.
    Here's new screenshots.

    and the wall:

ps: the "city" in the background is a mask made in 1 minute to add something, the final city will be a mix between very low poly building and images.

    Don't quit your day job...

... because then you couldn't do this on your lunch breaks!!
Love the updates. Beautiful structure and placement. I can't say that I have seen better outdoor level design. Insightful is the first word that comes to mind, but it isn't the best word.

How many man hours have gone into FW2 thus far?

Looking decent botumys but I have a few comments:

    • You should use more meshes for your rocks, large meshes with normal mapping will really push the terrain and bring it to life
    • Can't quite tell from your last video you should look at using a terrain shader which supports normal and spec if you're not already. Maybe Farfarer's awesome shader
    • Something doesn't quite fit with your lighting, fog and skybox, given the position of the sun and angle of the shadows I would say you need a sunrise or sunset skybox, and lighting to match. Right now the colours feel more like noon lighting.
    • Some large particle FX, dust/haze etc, might be nice
    • Somewhat subjective but I think your scene would benefit from some colour correction, balance - should help balance the lighting a little too.

    Keep it up!

    :D

I work on it during the weekend too.
For the hours, sincerely, it's hard to say.

1° it is in my plans to add more mesh, rocks, trunks ..
2° Actually I'm using advanced terrain shader with only normal mapping. I'll test Farfarer's shader.
3° I'll try with a more reddish ambience (and maybe change the skybox too)
4° There is particles generating fog, but maybe in the video there are not visible.
5° I use color correction (see image) but maybe I use it too timidly (or wrong)

Thanks for suggestions, it is motivating !

    Olivier.

Looking better! Maybe you can tweak the skybox material to give it some darker tones and redder hues?

In fact I'm using soft particles as fog. But the lighting is temporary and I want to try
    another kind of effects.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for. I've tried all the provided links but get "Aţi încercat să viziteze game.irilys.eu, care nu se încarcă." which translates to basically the website doesn't exist?

I threw the link into my download manager, and it received a 0kb rar file. I can mirror the files on my dropbox if you want

Your work looks top notch though I love some of the methods you've used for the overgrowth

Yes, I know, I'm sorry but the server is down, and I have to use another one.
In fact maybe it's better because between this test and now, I optimized a lot the rendering.
    Thanks for pleasant words guys.

I like to say i really do like all the environment but I'm somewhat confused. Is this just showcasing terrain artwork or is this going to be a game because i haven't see any well game play type stuff.

As RingOfStorms_ said, it's just a terrain without gameplay. Just because I like to do that during my free time :)

Truly wonderful! This project inspires me a lot on certain techniques you have used to also implement on the game I am making right now. If you are in need of a (temporary or permanent) host for the executables or webplayer I would have no problems to host them (also to shamelessly be able to walk around in your world and get inspired).

(skydome to do, actually it's the default one include in unity package)
ps: Images are dark, it's better to look them full screen. (right click and open image in a new tab)
