Unity 3.4 just finished uploading. This release is packed with features, fixes and additions - including the much anticipated support for Allegorithmic Substance.

Sounds like a great improvement, but unfortunately it won't download for me. Unity says it's up to date already, and when I try to download it manually from the site, it goes to the download page and says "Thanks for downloading blah blah" but does nothing.

    I'll keep trying. :(

question though: which new features are for non PRO users aswel?
(the site isn't clear on this, version differences, on the new features)

Having issues with my MonoDevelop project, now have 7 different projects instead of 1 (presume this is the 'builds in the same way the editor does' change) but I cannot run from MonoDevelop to Unity.

    Get the errors:

Error Error: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Documents'. (Error: System.IO.FileNotFoundException) (Assembly-UnityScript-firstpass)
Error File name: 'C:\Documents' (File name) (Assembly-UnityScript-firstpass)

Any ideas? Not sure if this is the right place to post this...

    Nice!

I'm curious about Substance and wow, even fixes/enhancements that i need (higher shadow res, webplayer framerate issues, faster Texture2D access, WWW and mem issues, fullscreen/mouse issues, ...). Beside of this i miss more sound fixes/enhancements but there will be 3.5... Btw. if i had choosen 16xAA it looked way better than 4/6xAA.

Strange, I just loaded up Unity 3.4 for the first and second time on OSX, and both times it doesn't load the default BootCamp demo. I have the both the Angry Bot folder and Bootcamp folder in USER/Shared/Unity/, but I can't find BootCamp.Unity anymore. Also, where is the Island Demo? Did UT removed them?

You can't create them AFAIK. You need to use Bitmap2Material or Substance Designer and import them as an asset. I couldn't find an example with 3.4 (shoulda put one in there! :) ). I did find this:
    http://www.allegorithmic.com/community/blog/article-free-make-it-parquet

There's a zip of just the substance and a download for the player. The player dl's an exe which doesn't help Mac folks. The MakeItAParquet zip in that blog post has a .sbsar and some bitmap textures.

[Edit: after a quick play... looks as cool as it sounded!]

Wow... that is all i will say for now... apart from... the new Water4 is great and all my project's stuttering every few seconds has gone. The final build is super smooth and slick. I'm a happier-camper! (so far, LOL!).

    Regards,
    Matt.

Okay, I just removed EVERY folders and did a clean install. It looks like Unity 3.4 is a "little buggy" right off the bat. When loading it up from clean install on OSX - it will ask for location of project before the editor loads. It doesn't go straight to the demo projects now (or last project). Also, it doesn't come with Island Demo or BootCamp demo. So new users to Unity 3.4 will miss out those 2 great demos. Luckily I still have those saved somewhere.

That's not a bug, that's the result of using "Show project wizard at startup" in the preferences, which has been an option for a long time.

The island demo isn't 100% compatible with Unity 3 anyway.

Sadly not, you need to purchase either Substance Designer (expensive) or BitmapToMaterial. The designer is the full thing, whilst B2M is a filter that can create seamless tiling assets (textures, normalmaps etc) from an input texture. However both are somewhat expensive and really only needed if you are an artist.

The exciting thing is you don't need them, you can buy pre-made substance materials, even from the Asset Store or Turbosquid and though limited, they often have a whole host of properties that allow you to tweak the texture generated.

Luckily you can find some free ones about, such as those included in the Maya Bonus Tools

So far I'm disappointed though not to find any included in 3.4 for free, at least to allow users to evaluate this exciting feature. Doesn't appear to be a Substance package and nothing for free up on the asset store. Perhaps allegorithmic will have their own announcement or something, but as of now, they and Unity need to get a good promotional pack for this stuff out to the users.

You mean UniSciTE? Its still there, you just have to search for it. Go to Preferences->External Script Editor -> Browse, then navigate to the 3.4 install folder of Unity and find it here...

    Unity 3_4\Editor\Data\Tools\UniSciTE
