I dare say that if the list were in order of priority (according to user demand and the state of the existing options), the GUI overhaul would be near the top.

I'm sure it's more a question of is it ready than where it is on the priority. It's a pretty specific task, simply throwing more engineers at the job to try and speed it up isn't a good strategy.

You make a good point. You could script many of the items on the list yourself, but the relative complexity of scripting the build process vs say, a ui framework is vast!

Yeah I know, but it was also one of the things in the 3.0 roadmap, so they may have been working on it for a while.

you can take it as nearly granted that the current one will remain just as it is without being touched, cause the Unity 1.x UI system is also still sifting around (GUIText and GUITexture). The new one pretty surely will not use an event overhead 500Mt bomb anymore as they mentioned the words performant and mobile in tightly related sentences, so OnGUI is hopefully not even used anymore but a GUIManager Component or a GUILayer Component so you can stack the layers easily and create more complex effects

Its Unity 4 that will then likely weed out both old UIs to finally get the focus on one and stop the user confusion the 2 and soon 3 systems would create.

More likely because the entire Unity UI is made with with the current GUI system (EditorGUI and so on), so it would be kind of bad if it was removed. ;)

that would not grant anything as the new UI could wrap up ongui calls and alike.

I'd love for them to be a bit open about the UI development - what they're doing for markup, data binding, etc.

    Hi,

Have you planned to change terrain system ? Heighmaps and voxels would be so good.

Because i know lots of people need it to do caves and underground levels on terrains.

    ???

    Thanks a lot !
    Best Regards.

And maybe it even will be possible to use such advanced techniques like antialiasing and image effects together (thinking for instance of colour correction where the wrong colours get antialiased.

    * Skinning performance is 2-3x faster on PCs due to SSE2 optimizations and multicore improvements.* This is what makes me thrilled. No more stupid obsession with lowering the polycount. It's hard to make professional looking character under 10k polys. And it's funny how you get allong all this time without SSE that have been standard even when UT formed?

    Nope
The 50mb was already quite a gain.
I fear you won't be able to get around the 3% revenue share to get Unity Cache for your web game

@Gundark: When Unity formed or more accurately till Unity 2.5, SSE was totally unimportant, cause on OSX (the only place it erally was) there were PPC the primary thing for a long time and PPC does not know what SSE is at all, they had Altivecs if anything at all ;)

I saw that ninja camp is developing a vertex painting tool . Is the tool coming with 3.4 ?

And I really want to see a rain drop effect on the screen (Image effect I mean) . :D

He's talking about the splash screen for Unity itself, not apps made with Unity. The Mac version doesn't have a splash screen.

I want to use my own graphic card (GTX 470) instead of the mobile card in iMac/MacBook/Mac Mini, and definitely I can't afford the Mac Pro.

The iMacs have pretty decent cards, and anyway, just think: no splash screen! ;)

Isn't the Mac cannot enjoy PhysX acceleration?

Nothing done with Unity can use PhysX acceleration. It's all software, on all platforms, on all graphics cards.

Any updates on the progress of Update 3.4 yet? I can't wait to see what new features are implemented, and I'm also looking forward to better support for the latest iOS SDK. I'm holding off my next app store submissions till this update comes out.

I have decided to hold my breath in real life until the release of unity 3.4. I suggest unless you want a purple choking giant hippo on your conscience, that you release it at once.

    Hurry, I can't last long.

Updates yes (so all 3.x) but upgrades to new Major versions have an upgrade fee (for Unity 3 it is $750 so half the price of a new pro)

LOLz wow i was thinking of a rino.. bad joke.. Any how.. no... they don't. It was just a blah blah blah something something.. so you clearly understand that's how unicorns are made.

And only a 3.4 release can stop this incoherent babbling.

Its 3.5 at best yeah, would guess the earliest to see it is Unite 2011 if not later (given its in sept and 3.4 has not happened yet)

I hear a distant rumble. I seem to recall dining hugely off a servant, so let's see...

    (places ear to ground)

(stands up gazing thoughtfully into distance)

Yes! Repent, ye unbelievers, for Unity 3.4 is nigh!

I actually have a real question. What is "Animation skinned mesh bounding volumes" I wasn't to clear on this feature.

"Pre-computed bounding volumes for skinned meshes" does it work like morph deformers? Say muscle deformation.

Or is it pre computing the vertex weights so it's not doing that at runtime.

It's what we have now. "Pre-computed bounding volumes for skinned meshes animations let you have more animated characters in your scene" means it's faster.

They do call it a bug fix release... I think they only published the new features to make us go crazy. I'm sure they will fix a bunch of bugs too.

Thanks Eric5H5. I think I revised my question as you submitted your answer. I get it. The current system got streamlined for better performance.. ++ in my book. Can't wait.
