Hi there. I am not really sure why you are having problems. You shouldn't need an older version, so I am stumped.

I've got exact same issue, on mac. But mine was working before I installed Unity app. Then I also tried downloading from http://unity3d.com/webplayer/ but the error persisted. Right now I'm stuck and avoiding have to do steps advised by Graham here: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/3860/installation-successful-no-its-not/7068#7068

edit: the worst came true and the steps didn't work. back to zero.

edit 2: I just found out what could be the issue. here's the error message when I try to access http://starwars.lego.com/en-us/funandgames/CloneWars-Quest-For-R2D2.aspx

but the plugin actually works on new stuff, such as http://unity3d.com/gallery/live-demos/index.html#bootcamp so, probably there's a bug for backwards compatibility withint webplugin 3.x that can't properly download the old engine.

hoping for a fix now! :)

Same as Cawas here. I checked with support on Dec. 22nd and received this as a response....

"This like an issue we had with an older version of the webplayer that would stop 2.6 content running on macs.

I think the best thing to do would be to uninstall the plugin completely then redownload it from out website directly to install it.

    http://unity3d.com/webplayer/

Make sure during the install process that you have all browser windows closed.

If you are still experiencing problems after these steps then don't hesitate to get back in touch with us.

    Regards"

Still have the issue here so I've let them know......

    Hi Sammer,

Thanks for sending in the email through support,

I am a WebPlayer tester at Unity and I will need you to file a bug report on this issue your experiencing in order to investigate further, preferable via Help -> Report a bug feature within the unity editor or emailing bugs@unity3d.com.

In addition to this please include details of the issue and specific steps to reproduce and which games you do and do not see this issue with.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Got it. The web player needs to be installed while running under an admin account. Simply installing while running as a regular user account and authenticating the web player install doesn't work.

You can just trash it, it's found under Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins.

All the answers are wrong you get that file because you have internet download manger or any similer program so instead of letting unity download the file , IDM downloads it and it doesnt update itself just uninstall IDM or deactivate it and it is not because you need to use an admin account or any other silly answer
