    Hi there, Unity Community!

Right now, we are in the middle of developing a mulitplayer based Hack Slay game with Unity, working title: Project Nemesis. We want you to be part of the developing progress, so in the next weeks we will keep you updated with concepts, modells and other cool stuff right out of the production.

In order to create an awesome game, we will ask for your opinion in specific areas.

    Platform: PC/Mac, mainly webplayer
Genre: 3rd Person Hack ´n Slash

Here, the player takes control of the soul from an ancient warrior, which is able to wear a wide range of armor and weapons. He is also able to challenge his friends or other players from around the world.

Groups of players are using their weapons and skills to achieve common goals, like capturing / defending of statues, or guarding a randomly chosen player. While trying to achieve the goal, the player has to prove his skills, his reactions as well as his ability to work in a team. Project Nemesis is a genre mixture of action games, role playing games and Hack Slay.

Downloading, installation and playing Project Nemesis will be totally free.

    Current Version: 0.40

    Web-Player

    windows client (v0.40)
    mac client (v0.40)

and of course: Crap Games on facebook

Good luck to you all! I already like your concept art.

I'm making my own school project, though it's going a bit slow now, as I'm working alone.

looks very cool but I think you mean a "Hack and Slash" game.

heres a tutorial that you probably can use:
    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/54310-hack-And-Slash-Tutorial
its a very extensive tutorial about how to make a hack and slash game.

I suggest that you look into the programming part before you end with the concept and stuff so you know what is realizable and what isn't because the littlest things can take a whole lot of time if you're a new at this.

hope it helps and I'll keep on checking this thread as I'm interested in you're progress.

    To be honest, no.
I think, we all know those kind of ideas that come up when you are sitting together with some great colleagues, talking, joking, while having some beer. (maybe too much)
And suddenly, someone has a crazy idea. I don´t speak about ideas like running around naked. I speak about those kind of ideas that sound crazy at first, but if you think about them the second time, if you spend some time shaping and developing, you´ll soon recognize, that this idea in fact was a great one.

We were sitting together, talking, when our Level Designer suddenly said, "Hey, let´s name our team Crap Games !" - some heard "crap", some understood "crab", the rest just looked like "wtf?".
    "You mean, like ... a crab ?"
    - "no, like: crap, everybody else is saying: We are the most awesome, epic, ones - so this is like, ... a different approach ?"
someone laughed. "And our logo will be a crappy looking crab"
    hooray!

At the Beginning every great idea sounded completely crazy.
Think about Alexei Paschitnow when he thought about making a game where the player has to stack coloured bricks.
Or having a plumber eating mushrooms, jumping on goombas and fighting turtles in order to save a princess.
Today crazy ideas in the game industry are rare, because they of course contain a risk for the publisher. What if the game fails and all the money is gone ?

With giving ourself a name that was the result of such a crazy idea, we wanted to remind ourself:
Sometimes, the crazy ideas are best, because they are special, they are the rare ones.

that is, what we believe in.

Hack ´n Slay/Slash both describe the same genre. =) thanks for the tutorials!
Yes, you are right, our core programmer invested some real hard weeks just for the correct animation synchronisation in mulitplayer, and he is about to change it again. ^^

But we will release a web version very soon.

But I have something new - right here, for the Unity Community!
Directly from our Audio Department, something for your ears:

The transition from concept art to 3D character is great. You have really captured the look of the wispy ethereal bodies.

    thanks mate!
at the moment it is just the lowpoly with a basic animated shader.
in the final version, we want to use a normal map, generated from this high poly model:
(our character artist had some hard time, to achieve the hard-edged cartoon look even in the highpoly)

thanks for all the kind words,
that´s, what we want - and we believe, with your feedback, this will be possible!
    ... and as announced:

    Version: 0.15v

    Web-Player
    Windows-Build

to play in full screen we recommend the windows-build.
We´re especially interested, how smooth the game runs on your computer, because in mulitplayer, it mainly depends on the servers hardware, how animations are played on the other clients. Have fun!

Thanks for all the kind feedback, we really appreciate that! =)
Next, we want to rework the Hit System and implement some new skills.

    thanks, we´ll look into that.

What was your experience regarding the load of your system?
We want Project Nemesis to be playable on even 5 year old machines. Client size is ok, with around 12 mb, RAM usage of the full client is around 160 mb, so that´s ok aswell. CPU isn´t the problem either. So the only thing, that´s bothering us sometimes is gpu. Did you experience lags?

That´s interesting! So you are missing the outlines? Or is it, because, the new shaders look kind of "more realistic" ?

You mean, those rays coming out of the well? Those are just really big sparks, it really is fun to experiment with particles.

Hi guys, Project Nemesis is back - with a main menu and brand new skills and special effects!

Coming up, in the next version:
    - Network bugfixing
    - Integration of the armory -> custom equipped Characters for everyone!

That´s like WTF?! Awesome, i really mean, AWESOME graphics/animations/level design/sounds/GUI/intro! Im just against the whole still while hitting gameplay =(. But anyway i totally envy you guys! The shoulders! Oooh the shoulders! I really wish i could be that good as a modeller/animator/texturizer/designer. Really awesome indeed!

PS: How did you made the weapon trails? Are you using them for hit test? Awesome ideia. Are you planning on using kongregate´s API? Im trying to use it as a database for my game but without any sucess so far, all i can do is connecting cause its a copy and paste code.

Thx and keep on owning that badly,

    Hugs!

Also, would you kindly tell us how you did this those weapon trails?

Jrricky, i have a guess about the trail. One way of doing it is by releasing particles, 1 pixel width and your weapon´s blade pixels height, if the current animation is an attack one, but probably not the best solution. Im also adying to know how did they made it! =)

    Hugs!

I doubt it was a particle cause its probably taxing to do that...it's probably a Trail Renderer which I'm goin to take a shot at figuring out how to use tnite, but I was waiting to see how it's done bfore doin that...

espacially Vinícius Sanctus, thanks for your kind words.
Regarding Kongregate, we are not planning to use their API, although we have a current version on Kongregate. The problem is, that Kongregate limits their games on 20 mb max. At the moment our whole client including both levels with all the sounds, objects and textures is around 30 mb. To achieve that, we had to share a lot of texture space. In order to publish Project Nemesis on Kongregate, we still had to downsize all the textures. - But as soon, as we add the next level, it won´t be possible anymore to downsize the client for Kongregate.

indeed, jrricky it is a trail renderer ; ) - with all its pros and cons. But for now, we have to stick with it.

    Hi there unity community!

development of project nemesis hasn´t ended, - while there was, and still is a time with a lot of organizational work, leaving us minimal time for the development itself. But last week we were able to welcome our 100th member on facebook, so we wanted to give you something back.

That´s why we started the weekly concepts. Showing you new concepts every sunday, while you are able to shape them. How? By giving us Feedback, telling us, what you like - and what you want to see more of. Starting today with a small collection of one handed weapons.

In this way we want to involve you into the process of developing project nemesis.
Tell us, what is your favorite, - and what do you want to see next?
    Axes, swords, blunt weapons?

It´s a new week, and we´re back with brand new concepts!
This time, we got some two handed weapons for you, espacialy big axes at the request of xXMaNiAcXx.
Weapons in project nemesis won´t be pure visual. They all vary in reach, attack speed, - and of course in damage.
Axes and hammers for example are much slower than swords, thus doing a lot more damage.

So, wich one would you chose?

    hi peeps,

we just wanted to share this week´s concept with you. We also took the 3 weapons with the most votes of last week (3,6 8) to improve them further. At the moment we are quite busy, because of the GC next week. Anybody from the unity forums who is going to be there? Would be great to have a chat with some of you guys.

    Hi guys,

we did a little feature on animation, thought, that might be interesting for some of you.
I´m also interested in what you think about, and, what you want to hear more about.
Thinking about showing some animation progress next time. =)
If you´ve got some questions, feedback or suggestions, feel free to post.

    Thanks for your support!
