Hack īn Slash, reloaded: the weekly concepts

    Hi there, Unity Community!

Right now, we are in the middle of developing a mulitplayer based Hack & Slay game with Unity, working title: Project Nemesis. We want you to be part of the developing progress, so in the next weeks we will keep you updated with concepts, modells and other cool stuff right out of the production.

In order to create an awesome game, we will ask for your opinion in specific areas.

    Platform: PC/Mac, mainly webplayer
Genre: 3rd Person Hack īn Slash

Here, the player takes control of the soul from an ancient warrior, which is able to wear a wide range of armor and weapons. He is also able to challenge his friends or other players from around the world.

Groups of players are using their weapons and skills to achieve common goals, like capturing / defending of statues, or guarding a randomly chosen player. While trying to achieve the goal, the player has to prove his skills, his reactions as well as his ability to work in a team. Project Nemesis is a genre mixture of action games, role playing games and Hack & Slay.

Downloading, installation and playing Project Nemesis will be totally free.

    Current Version: 0.40

    Web-Player

    windows client (v0.40)
    mac client (v0.40)

Good luck to you all! I already like your concept art.

I'm making my own school project, though it's going a bit slow now, as I'm working alone.

looks very cool but I think you mean a "Hack and Slash" game.

heres a tutorial that you probably can use:
    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/543...Slash-Tutorial
its a very extensive tutorial about how to make a hack and slash game.

I suggest that you look into the programming part before you end with the concept and stuff so you know what is realizable and what isn't because the littlest things can take a whole lot of time if you're a new at this.

hope it helps and I'll keep on checking this thread as I'm interested in you're progress.

    To be honest, no.
I think, we all know those kind of ideas that come up when you are sitting together with some great colleagues, talking, joking, while having some beer. (maybe too much)
And suddenly, someone has a crazy idea. I donīt speak about ideas like running around naked. I speak about those kind of ideas that sound crazy at first, but if you think about them the second time, if you spend some time shaping and developing, youīll soon recognize, that this idea in fact was a great one.

We were sitting together, talking, when our Level Designer suddenly said, "Hey, letīs name our team Crap Games !" - some heard "crap", some understood "crab", the rest just looked like "wtf?".
    "You mean, like ... a crab ?"
    - "no, like: crap, everybody else is saying: We are the most awesome, epic, ones - so this is like, ... a different approach ?"
someone laughed. "And our logo will be a crappy looking crab"
    hooray!

At the Beginning every great idea sounded completely crazy.
Think about Alexei Paschitnow when he thought about making a game where the player has to stack coloured bricks.
Or having a plumber eating mushrooms, jumping on goombas and fighting turtles in order to save a princess.
Today crazy ideas in the game industry are rare, because they of course contain a risk for the publisher. What if the game fails and all the money is gone ?

With giving ourself a name that was the result of such a crazy idea, we wanted to remind ourself:
Sometimes, the crazy ideas are best, because they are special, they are the rare ones.

that is, what we believe in.

Hack īn Slay/Slash both describe the same genre. =) thanks for the tutorials!
Yes, you are right, our core programmer invested some real hard weeks just for the correct animation synchronisation in mulitplayer, and he is about to change it again. ^^

But we will release a web version very soon.

But I have something new - right here, for the Unity Community!
Directly from our Audio Department, something for your ears:

The transition from concept art to 3D character is great. You have really captured the look of the wispy ethereal bodies.

    thanks mate!
at the moment it is just the lowpoly with a basic animated shader.
in the final version, we want to use a normal map, generated from this high poly model:
(our character artist had some hard time, to achieve the hard-edged cartoon look even in the highpoly)

thatīs, what we want - and we believe, with your feedback, this will be possible!
    ... and as announced:

    Version: 0.15v

    Web-Player
    Windows-Build

to play in full screen we recommend the windows-build.
Weīre especially interested, how smooth the game runs on your computer, because in mulitplayer, it mainly depends on the servers hardware, how animations are played on the other clients. Have fun!
