Unity game examples - C# scripting tutorial for beginners

    About
I'm hereby releasing my latest tutorial to the public (for free). This tutorial has been originally created for Creative Technology, Universiteit Twente and Multimedia @ VU Amsterdam. The tutorial is aimed at users who are new to Unity scripting. This time I'm showing you a collection of game examples to demonstrate how basic unity games work. This tutorial comes with a premade example project.

I hope this tutorial can help you get going with Unity!

    Hey Leepo

The example games look great but I can't seem to track down the pdf file that is supposed to go with it. I've looked in the files downloaded from the asset store and on the M2H website but no luck. I can go through the code and track things down, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

    Thanks again

    K

The file is in the root of the project: /UnityGameExamples_by_M2H.pdf
In the asset store view it's the bottom most file.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorials!

I have one question, when I open the files all the Game Objects miss the links to the scripts and items. I don't mind attaching them myself, but there is no way of knowing which script or item I should attach where.
But maybe I am doing this the wrong way (new project and then drag and drop the tutorial files in the project list), although I don't know how to make this work in another way.

Anyway, help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Aurelio

Yes, you should open the folder as project. Dragging the files into an existing project will result in a loss of 'links'.

Did you try creating a fresh, empty project and then reimporting the package via the asset store?

I downloaded these and I just want to say that these are wonderful starting points if you are learning C#. I recommend that anybody try to look at these and just filter through the scripts. You might just learn something. ;)

Had you thought about making any other examples in the future?

Downloaded it, went with the approach of building the egg catching game by scratch. Collision didn't work. And the meshcollider for the basket didn't collide with the spheres. I generated a isosphere in blender but the model didn't appear.

    Hi! :)

I've started to do some exercises from the "UnityGameExamples_by_M2H.pdf". Are there any solutions for it? I would like to check if mine are correct and I need some hints for some of them. Thanks.

    Hey,

Thanks very much for the files. The scripting really is helping me understand how to program a lot better.

urg0tt: I dont have any solutions available. Most important is whether your approach works..just run some user tests and try to find edge cases (e.g. moving out of the screen or so).

    Jake: glad it's of help!

    Hi Mike,

Are these tutorials suppose to be Interactive? Or are we suppose to just read the scripts? And you have commented through them?

    Thanks :)

I am very new to Unity (never actually heard about it before) and new to coding (I took a C++ class back in 95...didn't do to well). I would like to create a basic bowling game, but I don't know how to go about coding it, let alone which language is better (C# or Javascript). Can someone point me in the right direction of a great tutorial that will help me please? Thank you.
