This is one of the most awesome tools I have ever used. There are some problems here and there but it’s solid for what it is.

Hopefully I will do some more work on it soon though.

Hey guys, I'm also really interested by this awesome tool ! Where is it possible to download it or try it ?

I'm currently working with a student team on a game project called Big Bang, I'll do a topic presentation of the game soon.

Fantastic work. I'm not an artist, but I'd still use that. I was just grumbling over the lack of a Transparent-parallax-lightmapped-specular shader in the default Unity shader package the other day. Seeing things like this motivates me to get off my ass and get more work done instead of browsing these endless forums. I ~tip my hat~ to you good sir.

im interested in how this affects loading and filesize?

i am working on an iPhone game, and so I am wondering if this saves on loading, fps, or total filesize compared premade textures?

also, i have unity pro, so i would be glad to beta test :)

    It's dead Jim.

Sorry guys, I'm pretty sure a few pages back that the programmer stated himself that the project has been abandoned.

If I had the faintest idea how to write a similar add on for Unity I'd make it a community project, free, and open to all. Maybe someone else should start the task.

if its dead it will be quite shocking as many people is in terested in this kind of editors.

Also in the unity feedback page a visual shader editor is in the top of the list.

This kind of visual editors are the things that people loves. Its like linux, ubuntu rules because the console window use has been reduced to the minimun. The graphic way is the way for mos of us, and the coding reserved to Gods.

Nope, not necessarily abandoned. Just not being worked on at the moment.

I just played around with Unreal Ed 3 last night. On a dime I decided to play around with the material editor. Within mere minutes I was modifying the selected shaders (such as lightning shaders and certain pickups) to behave differently. I couldn't do that in ShaderLab to save my life.

If you can make your shader editor behave like theirs, I'll be very happy. I gotta say though, while I don't like the unreal engine as a whole, it has some stuff that I desperately wish was in Unity. The material editor is one of those things.

I think that many of the features you dream of cannot be done in Unity2.
The most complex shaders need to be deeply integrated with the rendering engine usually.
You can hack here and there and play dirty tricks but at cost of performance.
Apart that I also played with the UDK for some days but I didn't like it much: frequent crashes, a mandatory graphic pipeline (which I didn't like also) and some other stuff (also the editor is not that much "fun" to use) made me drop that piece of cr**ware in short time.

Sure, you can implement any graphical feature in unity. It has a very good post process pipeline and with this shader editor you can do pretty much anything you can do in unreal.

BTW, the project is not abandoned.

any word on a release date... even of a beta or anything?

This is something that would come in handy for me right about now since i suck at writing shaders. God I hope unity 3 contains a visual shader editor.

    Kurtloeffler,

This is one of THE most important features that was missing from unity and still is.. officially, if this plugin works the way it should then one of the MAIN problems is solved in this great app.

This thread should be further supported by both the community and the unity Devs out there! for correct me if I'm wrong this is THE only node based shader plugin or add on i've seen for unity so far, it's really unfortunate many people here underestimate or sometimes entirely ignore the importance of such a feature which has been missing from unity for a long time, as well as no mention of it yet from the upcoming version 3 to my knowledge, I have stated before and I will state again, the powerful lighting system which they are implementing in unity 3.0 will be crippled down to its knees without a proper shading system to back it up, therefore I am very happy to find this thread, for shading and lighting go hand in hand to complete the visuals planned on paper.

My compliments to your hard work! and we hope to get to see it in action soon!

I'm sure perhaps you'll be adding further nodes in the future as the product matures.

    Keep up the great work!

    I would like to add:

Does it include a preview window of the material you are building in order to see the results in realtime? something similar to the UDK's interface?

yes it does show the shader/material you care creating in realtime and yes it is similar to the UDK editor.

Some have said this doesn't look nice and wouldn't be used by artists. I (as an artist) disagree, and think it looks decent enough as-is.

Look at the graph of a test material I made in UDK recently. Also just grey tints. The only thing needing colors are the R/G/B/Alpha channels.

Though if you would like to make it look nicer, I could do a paintover for you?

This is *required* for anyone who does not have code for blood. Hell, my coder who has learnt how to get almost every other aspect of Unity working has no idea what the hell shader coding is about.
If there's a way into the closed beta of this, please let me know.

This needs to be in Unity. Even with the simplification of shader writing in U3, it's still mind bogglingly hard to write even the simplest of shaders (unless your blood is infused with the CG api).

Unity Tech should seriously make a point of getting this into Unity at some time or another.

I got the unity3 beta and there is some work to do to get it working with the deferred rendering. I expect the change will make the generated shaders less expensive to render :)
