latest unity just terminating nothing in event log while downloading from asset store

    ok started like very recently

    i have latest unity since i think it came out

    windows 8.1 64-bit release since it came out

    but i noticed it first i think last night and today while downloading / updating assets from asset store

    from browser press open in asset store

    sunity starts running either select an existing project or create a new one the unity starts and the in editor asset store opens press download sometimes not always but enough that its beginning to annoy unity just exists, closes, terminates, no warnings no nothing, while downloading...

    i looked in windows application/system event log nothing

    i looked in unity editor log and here it is

    thing is it was working so good with asset store for some time...

    when i start it up again and do the same thing this time it works and here it is

    by the way i did a full clean install of windows 8.1 ouch when it came out so this box is pretty clean, well except for windows 8 ;)

    and it was working with windows 8.1 for number of days i think without me noticing it or it happening, on of two...

    so i dont know if its windows 8.1, fresh install of latest unity, ect... would be nice if the thing would have logged some exception.

    or asked me to report some exception, which it hasn't. just poof closed!

    update did more testing today as i was updating assets

    it happens when i use the scroll wheel!

    yes as strange as it sounds

    try it

    run browser
    from browser say to open in unity
    in asset store as its waiting for page / downloading
    use scroll wheel down
    intermittently it will happen
    just try it a few times while its getting page / or when starting to download
    it will close the asst store and unity and no record of it.

    I can confirm the exact same bug with some additional details:

    ... I'm still stuck with a bug I can reproduce with 100% accuracy: Opening the asset store, whether any section in the store or the downloaded/owned assets list and scrolling down to the bottom will always crash Unity without any error message. By toying around I found out the following: You can "scroll" down or up with your arrow keys as much as you like, you can also drag the scrollbar up and down as much as you like, without anything happening. You can also scroll down and up with your mouse-wheel actually without producing a crash, BUT when you reach the top or bottom end of a list or store page and you can't scroll any further and attempt to scroll down or up("overscrolling" with your mouse-wheel) you produce this peculiar bug/crash.

    I hope this issue will be resolved soon, but in the meantime maybe this bit of information might help someone to prevent crashes and keep on working for now.

    So just avoid "overscrolling" with your mouse in the asset store, or don't scroll with your mouse-wheel in the first place and use the scrollbar by clicking or draging it or scroll with your arrow keys.
